Why are some soccer clubs charging tryout fees?

if tournaments can force you to stay at their selected hotels ( and hugely benefit from it), why can't clubs charge for tryouts?

They can... just seems cheesy to do so.

I had some black ops-type dudes show up at my doorstep over the weekend. Forced their way into the house, with paper and pen in hand. Demanded I signed up for XYZ club right then and there.

Nevertheless, I resisted. However, there were several of them and they held me down and forcibly moved my had around the paper, simulating a signature motion.

Then, to make matters worse, they flipped me over and tore my wallet from my pocket. Searching through, they took out a $20. I was left shriveled in the corner, hugging my knees and feeling more than a bit stunned over the events. I was vulnerable, and they could tell. For my troubles, they through me a T-shirt with XYZ Club emblazoned on the front.

I got an e-mail a few hours later confirming I had signed up for tryouts.
