My daughter got her invite. From the email sounds like the invites will be staggered to see who will accept.

Not sure it really matters the time. Those that did receive the email have until April 30th to accept the invite. I'm assuming that the next phase of invites should go out shortly after depending on spots available.

For those that have been or are going, did you fly? Drive? Drop off and pick up? Stay the whole time? Let your kid fly alone and get picked up at the airport? Doesn't sound like they encourage staying and watching. And 4 days in the middle of Alabama doesn't sound too appealing anyway. We live pretty far away and flights aren't too expensive. We are definitely going, just trying to figure out best way to get here there. Would appreciate serious replies and discussion.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWe let our daughter fly to Alabama without a parent, but we knew in advance that at least one other female ODP player would be on the flight and they would look out for each other. If she was flying on her own it would have been a more difficult decision. Sometimes an FYSA ODP coach happens to be on the same flight. Because FYSA is good about having adults greet and take care of the players, we felt this was a good life experience to let our daughter travel without a parent (but with other players on the flight). Also depends if your child is relatively experienced (and comfortable) with air travel. For us, it worked well to allow travel without a parent -- encouraged independence and responsibility, but with adult support in case something happened -- but it does depend on the player and family (in the end, a personal choice). If another ODP player is on the same flights, we would suggest allowing your player to go without a parent. For us, that was probably the most significant non-soccer benefit of the ODP experience. Congrats to your player and hope she/he has a great time!
