Totally disagree. Just because a kid may be a poor fit for a team doesn't mean clubs and coaches can treat paying customers poorly. First, do a better job selecting players rather than just filling rosters. Second, give frequent feedback to players/parents - tell them what they nee to work on. Third, as the spring season gets going let families know if the player will definitely get an offer, definitely won't, or is in the bubble. Better that you shoot straight with people then side swipe them later on.

Coaches just want ringers. It’s easier than having to actually coach, or won’t be exposed for lack of ability to coach and help players improve. They can sit on the sidelines on the cell phone, while barely paying attention, and still collecting a paycheck.

The next team, you mean the one where the club coaches think she belongs

Totally agree. But it won't happen.

If that is how you are treated you are with the wrong club. Many coaches are there because they enjoy coaching children. The problem is the sport has now based so much on winning that they don't have the right focus on development. That is why you see so much club pass even in the lower levels. A good season is winning a division rather than trying to get the best out of players and giving them guidance on what they can do to improve if that player wants it.

However so many parents want miracles and do nothing extra and expect players will get better just during typical practice sessions. Players who make the jumps tend to be doing the most at home.

And usually the best players come from genetics. Its 2-pronged. The natural genes from the athletic parents and growing up in a house that had a passion for a given sport.

Let’s not forget the coaches job can be thankless. I coached town travel and 25 parents happy 25 percent always have some Issue and remaining 50 percent don’t get involved/care. That being said in higher premier levels coaches are also pressured To Win, don’t win lose kids or can’t keep the ones you have - not Worth the peanuts they make is my guess

Agree you need those things, but more than anything the player needs drive. Without that, all the talent in the world gets you nowhere.

                        What chu talkin bout.
The best players come from households with cash. 80 percent of the true genetic talent is sidelined.

^^^Agree, it’s a thankless job and with the other poster that drive matters. Biggest factor is that outside practice, few players work on their skills and conditioning. It’s unreasonable to expect improvement by just going to practices. From the coach’s perspective, they may only have a year with that player until they or the player are on to the next. Don’t come ready or remember the last season’s lessons and it’s not the coach’s fault.

We hear all the time that XYZ player didn't have club soccer and all they had was a patch of dirt and a melon for a ball and they made it. You don't need club soccer and yadda yadda yadda.

So, what's holding them back? There's a team for every income level out there. Go play. If one is truly amazing, they'll be found.

Take a look at the best players on your kid's team. Then take a look at their parents. Majority of the best players on your kid's team will be the offspring from athletic parents.
For the rest, it will take a lot of coaching, personal inspiration, and off field work to break the genetic deficiency.

Except they won't. Because if someone "finds" an amazing player in a $150 town rec league, the dbags immediately ask, "but what league? What competition? My kid would look amazing too in that league." It sounds nice in theory but the reality just doesn't work.
