D-3 Why does it not get respect on this site?

Not everyone is a strong enough player to be able to play D1 at strong academic schools.

Not everyone wants to make the sacrifices necessary to play D1 in college.

There are some great academic D3 schools, and many D3 schools play decent soccer.

    So, why no respect here?

Everyone thinks their 12 years olds are on track to get full rides to Stanford or Duke. When reality sets in (drop out by HS, stop after HS, no $ to play college soccer) they have a hard time accepting it. They are bitter about their own kids' paths and pea green with envy about the ones who succeed.

Because most of the loud mouths here are completely nuts. Look at some of the batsh1t crazy comments about "European bound" players who will not even play DAP much less Div 1.

Not comparable at all. Talk to players who have played Div 1 and Div 3, all the strong Div 3 have players good enough to play Div 1, gap not that wide. Look at the Div 3 programs in MA: MIT, Amherst, Tufts, Brandeis. Any parent who claims have chosen to send their son to be a bench player at second-rate academically Div 1 U over these schools is a liar.

Soccer players in america are not real athletes. That is why delusional parents like yourself constantly defend D3. You are living a lie. D3 are not D1. If your kid is smart and a good soccer player send them to Brown not Amherst.

Wrong. Talk to players who have played both. Sorry your son isn't so bright.

I would say the same for D2. Why does all the discussion polarize to d1 and d3? d2 deserves its due as a middle ground between either option. good soccer

Ever taken a good look at the list of D2 schools? Most are not schools obnoxious parents want to brag about.

Because nobody respects anyone or anything else here. This is no different.

I played D3 years ago. Wasn't good enough to play for a quality D1 school, so I chose to play where I could and for a good academic school since college soccer was used to enhance my experience only.

Keep posting this because you hit the nail on the head. Parents want to brag so bad about their kids accomplishments and feel like they got good ROI on paying for all that training and playing for an expensive club . Deal with reality D3 is not anything to brag about. If your kid got into MIT because of his grades, community involvement and hard work ..awsome. Don't brag about him playing D3 MIT soccer.

Why shouldn't a parent be proud of a child playing soccer for MIT. The MIT soccer teams are pretty good. Although it is not as formal as the NESCAC "tips", the rumor is that there can be a little help provided by the coach with admissions. Not everyone with the admitted students median SATs and grades gets admitted, so a little help with admissions can be crucial. Perhaps someone with actual knowledge can speak to how much coach's support means at MIT. (Isn't the MIT coach a coach for one of the clubs??)

Ask your son if he would prefer to actually play on a top Div 3 program at one of the top academic universities in the world or sit on the bench at Nitwit U?
