International players are limited per NCAA

You can't have a full team of international players in college soccer. There are rules in place to prevent that from happening!! I think for d1 only 4 players max on scholarship.

By a 30-21 margin, the National Junior College Athletic Association's board of directors voted in late March to hold the number of non-U.S. players at no more than one-fourth of a team's allotment of scholarship players. In basketball and volleyball, for instance, that would be three. In soccer, four. In track, five.

Having a max number of scholarships is very different than any restrictions on the NUMBER OF PLAYERS. Many D1 teams have far, far more than four. It's growing fast at D2 and D3 and on the women's side as well. Not every international player needs athletic dollars to attend - they can still get merit money (no financial aid though), some come from countries that will help pay for school with the promise to return, others just have wealthy parents who want their kids to get a US education.

Based upon my son's team (almost 50% international) most international players come in receiving some amount of money and then leave after a year or two when the scholarship does not increase. A lot of them are used to being paid to pay soccer in their home countries, so the US system is a big change.

As we know the cost of a US education is insane while college in most other countries is much more affordable. If your family isn't wealthy you need to be getting some kid of assistance, either academic or athletic. If that disappears then that home town university suddenly looks much more appealing Also, some college coaches tell international players being here will get them seen by the MLS teams. As we know some coaches are good snake oil salesmen. My oldest in college has a few international players and two players went back home because they struggled with language/keeping up in classes

That's only for junior colleges which have nothing to do with the NCAA
