Globe highlights NEFC and FC Stars

Article talking a bit about these "non-profit" clubs and their 6 and 4 teams, respectively, heading to the NPL tournaments in Indiana.

    http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/20...N5M/story.html

I almost choked when I read that NEFC has 145 teams and Stars has 85.

    What a business.

And NEFC has a Metro South region? Um, naw that pretty much folded three years ago with the mass exodus of coaches and players. They've got South Coast, but it's not much to brag about.

Actually they now have Metro South and Southeast. Southcoast and RI merged and is actually one of their stronger regions in many age groups. But don't let facts get in the way of a good agenda pal.

Its nice write up for both clubs.

The irony of that statement is almost as rich as the clubs thanks to the 200+ teams between them fleecing parents.

Did Stars count their North teams? Nah, that pretty much blew up twice in two years and now is completely gone.

It all depends what team your child is on; No. 1 or Nos. 85/145.

It should also be noted that they bought the Lancaster land through a for profit LLC. The nonprofit is paying rent to the for profit LLC for the use of the land. Interesting...

The NFL was also a non-profit until a few months ago. They mad a bit more than $400,000.

The NFL was a "trade association", and exempt from income tax under IRC section 501(c)(6). It was never a "non-profit" charity under IRC section 501(c)(3), as both NEFC and Stars are. To qualify as a 501(c) (3) there is not supposed to be any substantial net earnings which benefits any individual.
