    Age Groups Reversing

Yeah, so age groups going back to 8/1-7/31, and it’s absolutely the right thing to do!

It would be everywhere. Maybe the club realized they didn't have to go to birthyear for rec?

Makes the most sense to go back to school year rather then birth year. Now you have middle schoolers playing with high school no real team training and then if you’re in the younger part of that team, what happens when half your team graduates when you’re a junior? I would love for it to go back to the school calendar.

For some states calendar year does mirror school cut off. Depends. Age cut off can never match school cut off as different states and districts have different cur offs.

Maybe they could try 2 year age spans or 18 month spans

you are thinking along lines of social activity. us soccer is thinking about producing top soccer players. not saying us soccer is successful - just that the thinking is different from yours...my kid is a late birth year and he has struggled mightily to keep up with physically much more developed kids that are 7-8 months older than he is. at ages 13-16 w/ boys in makes a difference. but it has made him a better player. no question.

Same boat, late december baby and since the changes were made has been playing as the little guy... as he is approaching the age where all the growth has happened it really is beginning to show how much better it made him than the kids that relied on being bigger for years.

Almost all states have a cutoff around the start of school - call it early August to early October. Only a handful have dates later than that. Have the cutoff be Aug 1 like it was before, with a two month window for exceptions if the family can prove the child is in a different grade. There will always be a few kids caught in the donut hole, but right now way too many kids are getting clobbered by this in 8th and 12th grade. Participation in soccer is down - the age change isn't the only reason, but it is contributing

I heard it was only ECNL voting on it. But I think if ECNL moves back others might follow or try to follow. DA/USSF can stay calendar year if they want - by the time you're in DA you're older and kids come from all over. Let everyone else play with their grade, most importantly the younger ones just starting out.

They knew all that before they changed it and they changed it anyway.
