Portland Timbers aquire a player from Columbia.

Yet another foreign player just been added to MLS Timbers squad.
How many locally grown players are on that team?
Does Timbers management even look at the local talent? After all, there are Timbers alliance teams, that should feed into MLS, right?

If Yimmi Chara is even half as good as his big brother was in his prime, this will be a nice get for the Timbers.

Would be nice if more local kids from the Academy got first-team looks. Ah well, you get what you pay for.

Over the years the Portland Timbers has consistently gone outside the US to acquire talent. Not sure why that would stop now.

For the most part this is also a MLS thing too.

        No.

It's a Global sport. Timbers Alliance is not about developing players for the actual Timbers (The professional soccer team that plays in MLS).

Just look at how many Oregon State players are from England. Getting that D1 $cholarship promised to so many local hopefuls.

99% of these kids will need grades college savings to get into college and need a "real job" someday.

Oh, and College Showcases are scam too.

Sure, but when are the Timbers gonna pony up and use some of that additional seat revenue for some premier level European players.

Plenty of power points out there that communicate a different narrative.

Yes it is a global sport, the big 5 leagues in the world attract the best talent from all countries and have league rules to ensure this happens (ie must have so many national team starts to earn a work permit).

The rest of world has limits (i.e only 3 foreign players on the field at anytime [not work permits])

The Timbers foreign players are not the best in the world by any stretch, nor is MLS's foreign players. The big names are all past their prime, well past their prime.

One wonders why MLS goes after so many non US players, it can't be for quality. Is it for cost? You can make your own conclusions.

Nice powerpoints with a pyramid, problem is it hasn't worked in a decade now.
