    ECNL for boys

How is this league in terms of competition? Is it a viable alternative to the new B level academy situation?

    #2
Top Boys ECNL teams are better ( would beat) the lower level tier 2 DA teams.
Mid level ECNL are the same as lower level DA
Low level ECNL are barely worth playing

Boys ECNL wants to be the path way to college soccer for boys like they are for girls. They are trying to appeal to the American model. Meaning, parents here do not aspire for their kids to be pro soccer players, the best case for parents is their child is good enough to play in college and maybe get a little financial help to do so.

DA is trying to ignore this. MLS DA wants to produce pro prospects. Very difficult to do. Parents do not want this for their child. That is why the tier 2 DA will fail. ECNL is trying to fill the gap here.

Boys ECNL is gaining traction because parents like that their kids can play decent soccer and play high school.

I would largely agree with the above. It's been slow to take off but building some momentum as some families say enough to BDA. Now that BDA is moving to basically a two tier system (MLS on top, then all the rest) and may possibly even pull out altogether I think you'll see even more movement to ECNL. If you're in the B league you play lots of other mediocre clubs multiple times, almost never play the pros, AND there's more restrictions.

In CT - FSA is the better option. CFC struggles with their boys teams at the branch level and it is reflected in ECNL as well.

USSF will do something to up the ante and keep DA relevant.

Looks like fsa has boys and girls college id clinic in February, some decent local colleges. Seems like no matter how great a player is, most kids end up playing in colleges close to home

              It's a combination of

              1) Most local players - not all - can't compete in top programs which tend to be further away (there just aren't many top programs in the NE). Only a handful of players each year land spots at top programs and find success there. There will be another group that go and don't play.

              2) Many will still be like any other student- ready to go to college but not too far away. Something like 75% of college students stay within a 5 hour driving radius

              3) from ME TO VA and into PA there is an incredible concentration of quality schools of all types. Something for everyone.

Lots of travel involved with overnight stays required.

                The quality is good

The quality is quite varied actually. Probably a little more parody than GDA, but vast differences between top and bottom teams in each division, every age group.

Why are you referencing GDA? Also, how do you know anything about the differences between top and bottom teams in all regions and age groups?

GDA is a parody of good soccer.

Overall The quality is good for boys ECNL not very good or great but good. The span of goodness is not relevant

Even the bad boys teams would beat a team in GDA

                          Parody? LOL
