Coach speak for you need to look. Coaches can’t tell you to look elsewhere. They will get fired.

Unless a coach says you’re in my top 11 or top 16, that player is not being considered.

It’s going to be hard, work harder, there’s a lot of good players here- your on the bubble and will probably not make the team.

And this is why WYS clubs bristled at the idea of Reign’s rolling discovery sessions. These clubs want to keep control. Discovery sessions allow players, parents and club to have a say in the process. Feel badly for the players on the teams who were cut. No reason for this type of drama.

You mean Theresa Romagnolo's team? The UW coach from Notre Dame? She wants good players. I'd bet money she has a better ability to spot a good player with high potential more so than anyone in Seattle United. She also doesn't fall for that seniority and entitlement ploy.

Players were told they were not going to make it, they just didn't see the hint/signs. It should be very obvious you will be on the team. The coach will actually tell you. I bet you every one of those new players knew they had a spot.

but see this way those players just drop down to the top RCL team at SU. and the revenue stays with the club

You're playing with kids' emotions, and at this level, their futures. Hinting around is passive aggressive.

“Try outs” means some don’t make the team!

These are “TRY OUTS” - not everyone makes it. What will become of these kids that never fail or experience disappointment? Get a grip people. There are recreational leagues and everyone gets a spot, might be what you are looking for!!

These young ladies are so fortunate to have a top level D1 coach.
Once in a lifetime opportunity for most of these girls for high level
development. TR is going to what she wants to do and SU leadership
will get out of her way, which appears to be the case with the cuts.

Parents of this team, encourage your girls to learn as much as possible
from her. Most likely she will be gone after this season to be UW head coach.

What is shocking is how many 03 girls left surf where Jason Dunn is going to be the head coach this year. Sounds like 7 girls bolted from the A team. Surf(Sound) numbers were awful at tryouts.

Most likely several of those girls were recruited by SU to the ECNL team with no warning to players loyal to the club

At tryouts, TR was consulting with SU ECNL Director Rich Reece about players to cut. Rich Reece is a men's coach at UW. Connect the dots. She's a respected, experienced coach and no doubt she had some opinions but she was also strongly advised who to cut. Decision was made in advance.

If she’s getting the uw job (big if as she left nd saying she wanted to spend more time with her family) won’t she be gone (or at least mostly tied up with uw, as there aren’t a lot of da coaches coaching ecnl teams in the side) right around when the hs season ends and the ecnl team starts its season?

Does she have any experience coaching kids this age or dealing with them and their parents? Not suggesting she won’t be good at it or couldn’t learn to be, but there are significant differences between coaching established d1 players at Nd, Dartmouth or Stanford and developing younger players.

But certainly an interesting addition to SU’s staff.

Well, RR was a XF coach, so this is pretty normal M.O. Did I say that? Oops.
In all seriousness, I can really understand why Reign's discovery nights are so
popular with parents and kids. How much longer can these 5 ECNL clubs
treat kids with such disdain without huge backlash? Wonder why girl soccer
is losing kids every year. Sucks...

"Perceived as more skilled" by whom? Coaches look for different things depending on their pool. If you don't know why your player wasn't chosen simply contact the coach. They should be able to give the reasoning. Just because players were cut or not chosen doesn't mean they're bad players. Quite the opposite, possibly. Just that, based on the pool before them, they didn't have the tools they were looking for.

Evaluating players is tough in a tryout situation. Try it sometime. As a coach you've got an obligation, I believe, to put together the best and most competitive team possible when at that level. Otherwise, you're being unfair to the players. If they're in the program out of "loyalty" and not skill it's simply putting off the disappointment. In my opinion.

I'm sure evaluating players in a tryout situation is tough, if it's a fair tryout. If you're already picked the team in advance, the only tough part is the tears from girls and the angry follow up emails from their parents

Clubs want loyalty. They all schedule their tryouts on the same day for a reason. Some clubs will cut kids if they dare to investigate their options in advance. Most clubs, including SU, give just enough warning to player to cover their own asses and to hedge their bets. Zero concern for screwing kids over in their main recruiting year. As someone said above, it's this kind of stuff that is the reason girls are leaving soccer and soccer participation is down overall in the US.

Because of course, coaches and clubs are always fair, always make the correct choice, andand only thinking about the kids
