PTUSA beat the 2nd place team in NPL, and the 2nd place team in Maple Blue, so that doesn't tell us much.
No it tells us there are some good teams in a Maple blue and NEP, not much to choose from. If you remove the top and bottom team from each league you have 16 pretty evenly matched teams.

      NPL Competitiveness

NPL has been competitive this Fall (similar to Maple Blue). The blowouts have come from GPS at the top, and Scorpions at the bottom. Other than those 2 teams, there have been few, if any blowouts. This isn't much different than most brackets in most years (Maple Blue has there share of blowouts, but most attributed to Weymouth - just like Scorpions in NPL : both have been misplaced)

So why oh why can't we play in the same league? Or at least have playoffs at the end of the season. Something that prevents the best teams in the area playing eachother regularly is simply crazy. Can someone please explain? No wonder Valeo is going out of state to find different teams to play.

Other teams have been traveling out of state for years. Valeo did it this year, by design and got rewarded for it with GS points. In years past MAPLE and NEP/NPL could/did play each other.... in the State Cup.

So your answer to the previous poster's question is NEP arrogance prevents it. I think we knew that already but thanks for the honesty. Now you can back to shouting Maple "town" teams. Still some suckers in NEP who might actually believe you.

Correct. Both leagues have an outlier at the bottom of the table. The primary difference between the two leagues seems to be at the top. The top of MAPLE Blue seems to have remained generally competitive with the pack, with generally competitive games each week. The GPS team at the top of NPL seems to have separated itself far more--the difference in the GPS GD is significant, with what looks like not many competitive matches even against the mid-table teams.

But I asked about the reason why there are 2 separate leagues. It can't be good for the development of the game in MA to prevent the best teams from regularly playing eachother.

That is because the top of MAPLE is a U12 team. So in fact, is there one strong U13 team in the state? Hard to say, because what if this U12 team beat the GPS team? Has this GPS team played Valeo U13 or other MAPLE Blue teams recently? Has it played any out of state teams in Region 1 or 2?

It would be fun to have the top MAPLE and top NEP teams play at the end of the season. WUP is doing just that--holding a tournament for these teams but it only goes up to U12.

The GPS team is an outlier as well, at the top of the table. Take them away, and the outliers at the bottom, and the middle 8 NPL seem to be pretty closely aligned talent-wise with the middle 8 of Maple Blue. You may be able to break the pack into an upper half and a bottom half for each, but haven't seen enough of the teams to get that specific.

Is Veleo 12's and 13's playing in GPS THANKSGINING TOURNAMENT?

This would be a fantastic time and place for Valeo to come in and display how great both teams reallly are!! Valeo are you going to play in this event?

                            Is it run by GPS?

Yes, dividing into two leagues by definition weakens the competition in each. Provides fodder for hundreds of posts on TS though. Why can't the two leagues play separately in the fall, then the top 4 or 5 from each make a league In the spring. It would allow for the vast difference in quality that can exist between 2 age groups in the same club. The leagues would still split the $$ same way as they do right now.

I think some Valeo teams are in fact playing in the GPS event. I think it is mainly to give the second teams another tournament though-?
