Why would they ever start a residency for the girls? What is the end game? As a girl, the best you can hope for financially is to be on the USWNT and make sponsor money. But to really do that well you have to also be attractive and marketable, ala Alex Morgan. Depends on more than just playing ability.

Do they even get paid for playing in the USNWL or whatever the pro women's league is called? Maybe 10K a year?

Best option for girls is to study hard and parlay soccer ability into a good college degree. No need to mess that up by going to a residency where you can't focus on studies.

Everyone is starting to panic and think the rest of the world is catching up with the USA women but it's not true.

The USA Women will win the World Cup this summer and all will be well. There is no reason to change the way we ID and develop women soccer players.

For Pete's sake, aren't they number in the World? They will be BACK to number 1 this summer.

More kids would flock there, including more talent from other nearby clubs. How do you think OC and WFF got the kids they have now? ECNL. That was it. Now they have a log jam of kids on their "purple" and "elite" teams, but hey, you gotta put them somewhere.
When WFF and FKK joined ECNL they both had every team in the top 10 and most were top 5. I do agree that if any club in S Florida were granted ECNL there would be consolidation of talent. Even if it were Weston. But you could make the same argument for Sunrise, Wellington, BOCA... Clubs that arguably are already equal or better then Weston. That being said it's primarily because S. Florida has no access currently. You can find some clubs in the Northeast that fit a similar situation like Empire United, massapequa, Toms River. But those clubs are again few and far between sitting in the next 80. Again trying to establish a girls DA around or seperate from ECNL would never work not only because there are not enough great girls clubs left, but because of geographical logistics and it would be second rate. Anyways, was not hacking on Weston or meaning to in a bad way. Your point is taken that South Florida is an underserved area with lots of talent.

They aren't #1 right now. They are #2, behind Germany. France just beat the US 0-2, and France is ranked #3. It was a friendly and it was in France. Still, the USWNT isn't going to breeze through the World Cup, and there are several other strong teams in the world that will be in contention for the World Cup Championship.

The USWNT almost didn't make it into the gold medal match at the Olympics. Japan was just as good in that match, but Hope Solo played an incredible game. It could have gone either way. They didn't win the last WC, and the have struggled during several games in the last year. I hope the USWNT has an easy go of it at the WC, but I am not as optimistic as you are. With that said, I believe they can win, but they have to play better than they have lately, and the coaching needs to be much better than it's been.
