How did the 2 defenders on a defense with a great record that also both scored many goals for AB end up on the D1 second team behind 4 others? Politics as usual at AB ?

Scoring goals off set pieces isn't really getting you noticed by other coaches. I am guessing that you are from AB with sour grapes, so I'll explain it to you. Your coach puts girls into the conversation that he feels should be considered. Then, the other coaches in your league vote. If the defenders you speak of didn't stand out in the field of play, then they don't get as many votes. And certainly, if they are up against dynamic strikers on other teams (or other leagues for EMass) then they aren't going to get as many votes. As a defender, being in these lists at all is great. The real question is, how does a forward with minimal goals make these top lists? What were the stats for the 2 All-American selections compared to others in EMass? I don't understand that at all.

You're right about defenders. Being on a good team that always has possession and gives up very few goals makes it hard for defenders to show how good they are. Glad to see that they don't simply default to choosing forwards with the most goals. Some kids create tons of offense without being the kid that taps in the final ball.

Whitman-Hanson's defender made 1st team and All-State. Example of a defender who stands out and not only defends but creates offensive threat. In past the defenders who are chosen are dynamic players that make a big difference on their respective team. It's unfortunate that not all the deserving defenders get picked, it tends to go to the offensive players first.

Would you please Stop!!!! A good team is made up of good players and with good coaching. You are saying that when a good player is on a good team it is hard to see that they are good. Things that make you say Mmmmmmm!!!!
