If he really wanted a kicker who had power and accuracy he could have found plenty of male players on campus who could outkick her without even breaking a sweat. Vanderbilt lost men's soccer to Title IX a few years ago, but I bet even the club team on campus has guys who can drill the ball with consistency.

I'm not saying she is a bad kicker or a bad soccer player, but all things being equal there is no way she can outkick a male soccer player. This isn't sexism, it's the combination of physiology and physics.
They had no kickers left in the squad. No club soccer this fall, not sure of the men's team was even around since their season was over. Her's just finished (with a trophy) and she was scheduled to go home for the holiday.. Her presence certainly didn't cost them a game - the team sucks all on their own and no way the coach was keeping his job regardless.

It was all for publicity. Ur trying to tell me that there wasn’t one man on the current roster that couldn’t kick the ball down the field. I don’t buy it. Wait until a Georgia player decides to return a kickoff. See how level the playing field is then. Huge risk.

She squib kicked for her own safety. If she plays Saturday against Georgia and actually tries to

kick it down field a Georgia player will not hesitate to take her head off on a return. I think

kicking a squib kick and then high tailing off the field wii be all she's capable of or allowed to

do. If she's still on the team. Because if she gets hammered and gets a concussion her

media bootlickers will call for the abolishment for that CTE infested sport.

How many male football players want to be ridiculed for flattening a girl? Anyway now that the CDC has shortened quarantine time they'll pull at least one of the kickers back onto the team.

Never played football eh? She 6 foot 1. Maybe 190 lbs. She not wearing makeup. Hers hairs inside her helmet. The guys don't know who she is, they just hit whatever is in front of them.
The coach got canned anyway. Changes will be made. Gender equality show ponies in SEC mens football will probably be low on his list of priorities.

listen- if she is out there on a return and remotely close to the play she will get hit
not because she is a girl but because she is wearing a different color jersey- kick return and coverage is full speed and very chaotic
and full of kids trying to grade well so they get more PT

and then of course there is always the chance that someone singles her out - that does happen

And do you see a lot of kickers getting hit on returns? Nope.

They may look bad on the highlight film as they are usually the last guy to try and tackle the return man headed for a touchdown, but that's about it. If there is a return and someone is actually focused on hitting the kicker when the kicker is not involved in the play then they are screwing up big time. The guys on the return team all cycle back to set up and block guys on the kicking team who are (a) focused on beating the return setup, or (b) busting up any blocking scheme if it does get set up; and (c) holding their lanes based on where the kick was headed and where the return seems to be headed. Once the kick is made the kicker always plays deep safety. Most of the time they can cycle back a few yards and grab the tee as they head off the field.

Anyone who went headhunting on a kicker is going to cause some issues with retaliation. Maybe the quarterback gets a late elbow to the throat in the next series. Oops. Maybe someone gets their leg rolled up in a tackle. Darn. Being stupid on the field is going to cause problems which is why teammates get pissed when someone does something stupid like hitting a kicker not involved in the play. Players and coaches know what will happen in response and that's why stupid stuff does not happen in the first place.

One of my favorite examples -- and its been a while now -- happened in major league baseball. It was after September 1 and a recent call up came to the plate for the Blue Jays. He hit a home run, but made the mistake of standing at the plate and watching it for a few seconds. That is a big "nope". The next guy up for the Jays got plunked. After the inning ended, the guy who got hit went after his teammate in the dugout - physically looking to punch him. He had to be held back by his teammates. Why, because his teammates stupid actions in showing up the pitcher meant that the next guy up (him) was going to get thrown at.

The same would hold true for football. Hit the kicker unnecessarily and there is going to be retaliation, and that retaliation will not involve going after the guy who did the stupid thing because that guy is likely some second or third string freshman getting their playing time on the kick return team. The retaliation is going to be focused on some more key player - quarterback, running back, receiver.

It was a PR stunt by a coach who was trying to save his job. She didn't do anything wrong but neither was the kick good, even if you want to claim it was a purposeful squib. And she ran to the sideline before the play was over rather than remaining to make a potential tackle attempt.

I wasn't there. Was she encouraged? Did she take it upon herself? Was it well received by the players or not? Pointless to speculate on the impact of all that without having some context.

But to discard someone's voice simply because he or she plays one position or another is utter nonsense.
No one on a football team takes the kickers seriously. No one.

Not true at all dummy. Did you not take outside backs seriously? If you have a bad kicker that misses a lot of chippies he draws scorn and if you have a guy that can stick 50s regularly and never misses chippies, he is value highly by all of his teammates and, I assure you, is highly recognized as a part of the team. Watch what would happen if that guy got cheapshotted on a kickoff, PAT, FG, or punt.
