Parents should sit quietly on the sideline or not sit on the sideline at all.

All-ISL selections are pretty much like published college matriculations, the golden boys are
always featured ahead of of everyone. Bottom line, two sophomores should not have been selected. Too many players have paid their dues in the league to have that happen.

Players have it (top level talent) or they don't. Paying dues by marking time on a team doesn't factor in. The best players play. The best of the best are honored. It doesn't matter if you are a freshman starting on varsity over seniors. If the freshman is the most talented they deserve to start, even if there are seniors with three more years on the team. Same with awards.

Nope, it does not work that way in real life. I'm not disputing the two nominated sophomores' level of talent. There are other intangibles that more tenured players have brought to their teams/schools over the years such as captaincy, leaderships skills, commitment, loyalty, etc...No way should two sophomores be on that list.

No dog in this specific fight, my son doesn't play in the ISL and I don't have an opinion on those sophomores.

Those good captains (though weaker players) can and should be recognized for what they bring, which I agree is valuable. Just not recognized as the best of the best, because that is not what they are.

20 total Juniors and Seniors on the 2018 Honorable Mention List, that is what the qualities you've described are for. Not All- ISL, that is pure talent based criteria.

Does each head coach nominate players not on his team and they count the votes at the end? Is it entirely based on talent ? Doesn’t seem that way as more frosh, sophomores and juniors should then be on that list.

Yes, coaches throughout the league place their votes based on soccer skill based attributes and proficiency on players NOT on their teams. Votes are tabulated at end of season and awards given out. Honorable mention candidates are nominated by coaches whose players are on their teams.
