            Big Mistake

If the USSF awards FC Florida DA status, it would confirm the concern many have that the non-MLS DA programs will eventually become the new money grabbing travel soccer...the difference will be that instead of taking families for $1500-3k a year, parents will be shelling out $8-12k+and year.

Non-MLS DA programs are just one more marketing ploy for clubs to make more money. As some have predicted, pretty soon there will be a DA program in every corner. US Soccer is not interested in developing anything other than its revenue. The only hope for us soccer is when every state in the nation gets an MLS Team with fully funded developmental academies attached to them. In Florida, the only true DA is in Orlando, Fl. The rest are just "new and improved" versions of the same product that develop little other than the size of the club's unregulated "not for profit" bank account.

Orlando City is the only MLS club with DA in Florida so are you saying no one else can be able to produce players? Oh please. 5-7k isn't a huge difference when investing in the possible future of your child if that's the case colleges are bigger crooks.

Better to invest that money in a college fund I think. Do you really believe that these "Academies" are developing talent? Players in Florida basically develop themselves with the help of their parents which is why we fall for all sorts of scams so easily. And yes, Colleges ARE the bigger crooks but at least at the end, our children will hopefully have a degree that will start them on a career path. How many players currently at these DA's do you think are going to play professional soccer and be able to make a living from it? Less than 1% will make it and only as far as a US MLS team. A couple will go on further and play in a abroad but that is the exception rather than the rule. College men's soccer scholarships? Yes, a few will get some lunch money and there is always the one kid that gets a full ride but for most, there will be nothing. Most of these kids do not have the HS grades necessary to play college soccer to begin with. Soccer in this country is simply not that important yet.

Great points and trust me a degree is better. But why does that mean FC Florida shouldn't be granted DA or ECNL? If 4-5 from each side girls and boys get a shot to try and play on USMNT or USWNT then FC Florida has done their job. You can't count someone out if they haven't had the chance to show what they can do.

I agree, why not? As long as we all know that it's all about the money and not some "elite"program then everyone should have a chance and not just the few with the best connections. BTW, check out the national pool when you get a chance. How is it possible that the same kids make the pool year after year? Some of these kids were good when they were 14 but now they are average at best yet they are still there. Why is that? Where is the new crop of players that should be replacing them as any true national pool would?

I'm not speaking about the politics of the national player pool that's a different subject. I'm speaking about FC Florida getting DA and ECNL. Nothing else.
