It was tried years ago. Failed. Other town do not like to give up power of their feifdom. Then there are all the league rules in place not allowing a team to have more than a certain % of players from outside of one town, or more than a few towns represented on each team. System is not set up for this to be successful.

In our case, it would require an approval of the board of our league to regionalize with another town(s). The politics are such that an approval would not be likely, as that regionalization would put other towns at a competitive disadvantage. The board of our travel league take MTOC very seriously, and anything that would upset their chances of putting teams in MTOC are generally denied.

This just happened in our league, with a town requesting regionalization with another town not represented in our league currently and it was denied. An appeal went up to MA Youth Soccer and they sided with the league...

Possibly, one of you could have your father send an e-mail to the Board? Maybe that would help?

Might I add that another downside to the pro coach model (in addition to cost) is that it leads to dependency on paid staff. Better model from a long-term perspective might be to hire a "Director of Coaching" to lead training of parent coaches, etc.

Hard to eliminate the parent politics, but you can do some things to moderate them. One thing is to mandate coach rotation (term limits). Obviously the system used to pick the teams is crucial (and the lightning rod) with the parent politics).

Too bad, that basically dooms towns like yours to extinction

The DOC idea had some merit. Basically someone to train and oversee the coaches. And while probably not in the job description, police the unscrupulous coaches who try to pull the egregious stuff we are talking about.

Even better. Town A should send their players to neighboring town B and visa versa. The dad coaches in town A coach the town B players and town B dads coach town A players.
No more dad's coaching their own sons and no added expense of pro coaches and only a little extra driving.

That's about all anyone should say to a HS coach.

Let me guess, you watched tryouts and attend every practice, so that opinion is based on something. LOL

No, but I do see what happens when the resident whiner's kid goes into the game.

If the coach is a teacher at that same school, and isn't affiliated with a soccer club, you're screwed. period.

even some that are affiliated with a soccer club aren't that good either - there is a reason why they no longer coach anything other than high school soccer....
