Right! Then, of course who do they call first when they need something?

What? Why does US Soccer need the "enemia?" They thoroughly outplayed Sweden. The US didn't pack the box; Sweden did. The US will finish better in the future, and I look forward to the next time they face this team. Eventually they will break through against Sweden, and when they do it will be ugly.

FWIW - I don't blame Sweden for playing that style. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. An overmatched team got the result they needed.

bad example- 4 corners was an Offensive stall - thats why they changed the rule

you want to penalize a team for playing good defense

In a relevant sense, the four corners comparison wasn't a "bad example" and packing the box hardly counts as playing "good defense." The sports ignorance among some soccer parents is embarrassing.

            From Wikipedia:

A defensive three-second violation, also known as illegal defense, is a basketball rules infraction in the National Basketball Association (NBA) introduced in the 2001–2002 season. It is assessed when a member of the defending team spends more than three seconds in the free throw lane (also known as the 16-foot lane, or colloquially as "in the paint") while not actively guarding an opponent....

The team committing a defensive three-second violation is assessed a team technical foul. The offense will receive one free throw and retain possession of the ball.[4]

Prior to the 2001–2002 NBA season, any form of zone defense was considered an illegal defense violation and resulted in a warning on the first violation and then a technical foul for any subsequent violations.[5] However, the defensive three-second violation makes it difficult for NBA defenses to play zone, since zone defenses usually position a player in the middle of the key to stop penetration.[6]

Solution then? Or, just a gripe? That's fine if it's the latter, but this can't be presented a recent issue. Negative football has been around for a while. Some rules were changed that helped a while back (back-passing to goalies, for example), but the end result is system football is taking over from creative football.

Holland rode this style to the 2010 WC Final. The Special One becomes special this way. Atletico goes to the CL final this way; Portugal in the Euros.

It's a problem all over football right now.

Yet, when there is a national disaster, first number called is always us.

Hate us all you want, but without fail, when there's a problem, America is asked to deliver and we always do. Even if the hypocrite wins. (you made it political)

Please turn of the Ailes propaganda channel or get your news updated from WWII. Obviously you have an Internet connection, but you're living in an extreme delusion.

Ok, Trump. By your logic: what do you call a team that get beat by pussies?

*sigh* Go to the Turkey thread if you want to spread your love so wide.

Not a Trump fan, nor a Fox fan. Just stating that when there is a disaster, America is always first in line to help out.

It is curious to me that we're hearing all these complaints about how an undermanned team took down the best team in the world. Where were all these complaints when the US men used a similar strategy to survive their group in the last World Cup?

For a country that doesn't have soccer hard-wired into its culture, we sure sound like "beautiful soccer" snobs when we complain about others not playing the game "properly." It's as if we'd be happier with a system of judges who would award subjective scores based on which team was prettier. Very silly, IMO.

Exactly my (attempted) point...you articulated it better. Yes, US against Belgium was such a case, we almost stole that game and if we did...we'd still be patting ourselves on the backs.

I meant it's a "problem" in only that in nirvana, everyone would play aesthetically pleasing soccer. And puppies...there'd be puppies on the sidelines, too. But, winning comes first.

NBA is a bad example as well- it is entertainment above sport
thats why they don't allow zones-increase the scoring and entertainment value-fannies in the seats

go watch how the game is taught ,at the youth level-90% of teams play zone
ever notice that rule changes in professional sports always benefit the offense?
