NEFC looked strong. Seacoast Kings played them tough and gave them a good game. Defended most of the game but were pretty organized. NEFC needed that heading in to tough games next weekend. Cruise control against GPS. Could have been 20 if they had a different keeper.

U14 was really 0-0. Bad call by ref.

Agree ref made bad call on a goal allowed and another bad call on one that was waived off. First half was evenly played, Stars controlled play in second half, goalie on FC Boston played well.

This parent has it correct...first goal should have been disallowed (5 yrds off sides)...Second goal that was waived off was a goal (make up call)...to be fair, it is difficult to make those calls without line judges.

Let me guess, the ref was their Stars coach or older player.

These are just Friendlys. Get kids playing before Labor Day. Figure out where to play kids, who the parents should avoid on the sidelines, what travel tournaments that count you want to commit to or say no upfront. Means nothing.

Parents are the problems with Girls youth soccer. Was there really a need to post scores from a practice. You people are pathetic

No that would be silly...the ref was actually the same guy who officiated the game from the movie "Victory" (fixed match between the allied powers and the German National team). First goal allowed was five yards off sides. Second goal that was disallowed was absolutely on sides, but the free kick awarded that led to the goal was just as bad as the off sides calls. FCB player was pulled down with the ball two yards in front of the 18 and the ref called a foul on her. Pretty bad.

However, the play was fascinating. Brilliant free kick by Stars player just below the cross bar, FCB keeper elevated and made a great finger tip save, but the ball hit the cross bar and the Stars player knocked it in off the rebound. Great play. Two very good teams.

                            (I guess I'll do) The 2004 List
                            Week ending 8/28

To say it's ridiculous to try to do a real ranking after a pre-season weekend of friendlies and warm-up tournaments, is an understatement to say the least. Most of these top teams are fairly new rosters due to the birth year change, AND the fact that is the first year that many of the big clubs put together their NPL and Pre-ECNL teams with top players from around thier regions. Lots of playing with rosters, line-ups and positioning going on with these teams this pre-season, but we gotta start somewhere.... This is definitely less of a ranking, and more of just a pre-season starting point, based on (very few) results.

NOTE: Please keep scrolling if lists and rankings annoy and offend you. It's all subjective and for fun. So happy to have soccer back and our girls playing again. Looking forward to a great, injury free season for everyone. See you (secretly) on the pitch!

                            1. SSS AP - They played the in the Spirit Cup and were cruising right along in the top division, until they hit a wall known as Penn Fusion Pre-ECNL (Obviously the birth year change benefitted that team, as they basically plowed through the top division of a strong tournament winning easily in all but one game). Anyway, SSS gets the pre-season #1 spot locally based on success against other tough competition, and losing (albeit big) in tournament semi-finals against the eventual tourney champs.

                            2. FC Stars Pre-ECNL - Played good last weekend in Chicago, but failed to advance to playoffs in tie-breaker, and won a close scrimmage against FC Boston this weekend. Scrimmages are tough to gauge, because they are basically practices, and hard to know how similarly either team would be playing if it "counted." Regardless, they got the W and showed decently ENOUGH last week. They get the pre-season start in #2 spot.

                            3. NEFC/Breakers NPL - They played locally in their own tournament, and also cruised through Sat as expected (13 GF, 0 GA) but lost in finals in a surprise upset against their Central regions top team. Was it a fluke, and some extra fire in the belly of the "second" team to take down their own top team? Perhaps. But regardless of who held time of possession, or the discrepancy in quality shots on goal, the NPL team lost in a close final, but they still lost. As the weekend preview stated ... They better quickly rediscover how to score again next weekend at Stars Cup, or they may find themselves in for a long weekend. #3 to start the pre-season.

                            4. FC Boston Pre-ECNL - Similar fate of this team last weekend at the Cranberry Cup to the NEFC team this weekend. Made it to the finals fairly easily in a U13/U14 bracket, but lost to a "second" team in the final match-up. The loss in the scrimmage to Stars this weekend, puts them just a (small) step lower in 4th to start the season.

                            5. Aztec - Spirit Cup Second Division. Two losses and a 0-0 tie in the consolation. You can debate about strength of schedule, but 0 wins and 0 goals scored in 3 games, means they will start the pre-season list at the bottom of the ranked teams. They are the only one of these teams not playing in Stars Cup next weekend, so it might take until the NPL season, for any movement for them.

Unranked - GPS NPL (No results, no ranking).

Props to 04 List Guy. You and 03 are doing a great job. Seasons early, but you made tough decisions, and shared the justification. Great read.

Wish i could say same about my 02 list, but it just doesn't yet feel right.

Love that we have 3 lists going! #NoBoys
