To identify the best and brightest soccer players in the country. In that context if you get labeled as a "role player" you might as well just save your money.

Role players at the local level (and make no mistake, Mass ODP is still very local) are not going to be suddenly "discovered" and elevated to the NT. Role players have their place, and parents should be honest enough to recognize when they're raising one.

I agree with some of your points. Our son
is developing at a pace that works for
Him and at a fantastic level with excellent coaching
And players. He is very happy and loves it and most importantly
Staying out of trouble and working hard but having fun at this level. Who knows Whats
To come at this point. Too young to know. The scrimmages at ODP do not even
Come close to the team games he has at the premier level.
Let's just say we picked the wrong club and will
Move on to something better. In the meantime we will
Enjoy watching ODP training and the scrimmages.

ID2 and ODP
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThat is what happens when the hedonistic soccer parents find programs like ODP. By their very nature ID programs are cruel so anyone who is just hanging around is either too dumb to realize their kid got passed over or they just don't care about anything as long as their square peg gets included. Those parents water the expectations for programs like ODP down so their kids fit and they can brag about their offspring "making" a statewide team but what they end up doing is just flooding the programs with mediocrity and killing them.

Yes, it gets watered down at the state level but if you think the regional level operation is something valuable you would be sadly mistaken. The whole program is a lie. They lie to the mediocre kids because they need them to stay in. They lie to the talented kids telling them that they will be identified for college when most are already at clubs that do the same thing except much better and cheaper.
The program is compromised. It's a great idea but it probably needs a sponsor to actually have any value to elite soccer in the US. Even then, it may very well be redundant.
