In the U16 year:
There were 9 games in the GPS Thanksgiving Showcase featuring NEP vs Maple matchups. Maple teams won 4 (Fuller Hamlets over GPS-NH, World Cup over Bruno, Forza over FC Stars NPL, Valeo over CSU), NEP teams won 2 (GPS-MA NPL over Forza, Aztecs over SSU Blazers), and there were 3 draws (Fuller Hamlets-Bayside Bolts, World Cup-Seacoast Maine, Forza-NEFC Elite RI). Maple teams outscored NEP teams 14-9.
There were 2 games in the NEFC tournament featuring NEP vs Maple matchups. Maple teams won 1 (Forza over NEFC Elite RI) and NEP teams won 1 (GPS-MA over Fuller Hamlets).
Granted it's only 11 games and a small sample size, but it should be noted that the teams currently in 1st, 2nd and 4th in the NPL standings are a combined 0 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws against Forza and World Cup.

I would take more stock in a preseason tourney vs the thanksgiving tourney..... what are the Needham matchups?

Truth is, there are good teams in NEP just like there are good teams in MAPLE. It's a shame that they're separated into two leagues and two organizations (US Club Soccer power struggle with US Youth Soccer), but the rumors of MAPLE's demise are, to say the least, premature~
