    Greater Tampa Bay FC

Central Pasco United Soccer Association Press Release …….

Land O Lakes, FL – On May 6th, 2013 - CPUSA will be launching its new Club name and website:

    GREATER TAMPA BAY FOOTBALL CLUB

In the coming weeks Greater Tampa Bay Football Club (GTBFC) will be announcing through its new website all the pertinent information needed to join us for the upcoming 2013-2014 season, and continue our consistent growth.

Over the past 35 plus years CPUSA has diligently served the Pasco County community. It all started with Lake Padgett Soccer Club back in the 1970’s, with the name changing to CPUSA in 1984 to better reflect the club’s growth and expansion as it started to serve a larger demographic in Pasco County outside of the Lake Padgett community. GTBFC is excited to continue the traditions and services these great clubs provided over the past 35 plus years. With the outstanding growth in our Recreation Program, introduction of our Junior Developmental Academy in 2012, improved Competitive Program and introduction of our new Soccer Academy of Excellence, we feel we have put together a great offering, from level of coaching to amount and quality of programs, to overall value for your investment in your child. We hope you will look through our new site and find the program that’s right for your child.

What else sets us apart? Communication and participation in all areas of our Club. We've listened to the community and these are two vital components to a successful club. You will
find the cornerstones of GTBFC will be continued communication with our members and
taking a vital interest in their participation at all levels to help make this a Club to be a part of.

Come join us and be part of something very special.

Name change is great, I guess. There must be a bigger picture here that no one is mentioning?

I am hearing some positive coaching/training additions that will be coming that are unpublished at this time. One of the names shocked me.

Things that have been mentioned on this/prior CPUSA thread as reason a new name may be in order:

              1) club has (for awhile) had kids from Hillsborough on it, and the fields are litterally only 2 miles from the county line, so Pasco in the name isn't really necessary
              2) lots of growth at the rec and academy levels. name change may even widen that
              3) new focus re additional competive teams at each age group. name change might help (see #1)
              4) new focus to add top-level tournament teams.
              5) club has undergone changes in past few years / why not a fresh start.

if there is a bigger picture reason that you know of, please tell.

I'd also like to know what the unspoken reason is. Please elaborate.

Given the club's location (very close to the Pasco/Hillsborough Co line), this is probably a good move. Best of luck CPUSA/GTB!!!

A name change is only effective if leadership changes and drives it. If that happens its a good move, otherwise its the same pig wearing a new dress.

Leadership changes? I think we have moved past the good old boys soccer club days to a new era. We are still a small club but MR, whether you like him or not, has made a number of positive changes in the past couple of years. The recent Boards (last few years) and MR have tried a number of "outside the box" ideas. Some have worked (most) and some not so much. We have some outstanding coaches, the club is growing in numbers and programs and our fields aren't too bad. Do we have our issues... of course but I am encouraged this club is moving in the right direction. But I do agree with you in that a name change only is not effective to change the direction of a club unless the leadership is there to make those changes to improve the program.

                          Leadership already changed.

I'm very happy with the direction it has been "driven".
