Imagine if your kid plays 3 sports and ends up getting money for one other than soccer.

?? There is no money tied to sports at the D3 level so if you are looking for some sort of return on your investment in soccer, it is not possible to get a financial return at the D3 level.

College coaches like multiple sport athletes. Sometimes that gives them the edge over another equal recruit. That isn't included in the DA sales pitch.

Ok...let me give it a shot...D1 College coaches like multi-sport athletes as long as your kid is a DAP kid.....which, based on their schedule of 4 days per week practice, is difficult to play another sport....

Sure, this is not 100% i.e. non DAP kids can play D1 soccer, but those coaches still want your kid playing club ball in the Winter and spring. Actually, I will go one step further, the better D3 teams/coaches will also want your kid playing club ball.

for those kids who are able to juggle school work, club soccer, and a high school sport at the same time, then I will agree that college coaches will see that as an attractive quality. How many of those kids are out there?
My son was a middle of the pack DAP player and tried to play a high school sport at the same time. He was tired and not getting his school work done. The next year he didn't play both.

^^^^ I agree many college programs wont' even look at your kid unless they're at some kind of high level club. Not every sport is conducive to multsiport endeavors. Also depends on the club and HS coach's willingness to budge for inevitable conflicts that arise. Winter sports are the easiest because club is low key then. In the spring it isn't easy to do high level club and HS sports but it can be done. A kid that only does HS soccer and two other sports won't get looks (college coaches rarely go to HS games, maybe state finalist games) but a player could be spotted at ID events that schools hold. There's also the occasional walk on, but that rarely happens at better programs.

Anything is possible. Always comes down to whether or not the "juice is going to worth the squeeze" though. Need to project where you think your son may have the talent to go and then take a look at what it will likely take for him to get there. If the both of you want to blow your brains out with club soccer and end up at some D3 program, would respectfully suggest that's where you should start look at whether there is enough balance in the plan.

It is well known by anyone with high school aged kids that you won't be able to do club soccer if you are trying to be a three sport athlete in an MIAA school because of the bonafide team member rule. The MIAA makes it so you pick one or the other so the idea that you would simply drop the DA and just do a regular club team is nothing but a false scenario intended to spark debate.
