    1. Why do you think that soccer should be different than any other sport in this country? The US certainly excels at many other sports. Perhaps soccer is just not as popular in this country as these other, more financially sound, entities.
    2. Don't you get tired of these race statements? All economic backgrounds seem to have plenty of access to basketball, football, and baseball, the latter two requiring far more equipment and resources than B-Ball and soccer......yet still all economic levels show up to play, and, I would venture to guess, that the professional money is spread out fairly wide among all backgrounds..........actually, I would go further to say that the middle and upper economic classes, that you seem to blame for all calamities, are underrepresented in these sports. Are you going to complain about that??? ....or is this a Chris Rock phenomenon thing??
    3. Your statements that the 'middle and upper class' are sitting around 'playing video games and smoking week' is no better than any other type of racist comments or actions that you complain about. Fact is, the parents of these 'middle and upper class' are far more involved in their kids lives and seem to be more invested in them and have expectations about what they should be doing now and in the future. Is is possible that if the parents (or parent....or even local community) were far more involved and invested in their youths that things would be better? Do you really think that it requires the effort of everyone else to bring these kids to the ball fields? At what point do you demand that people get off their ass and seek out opportunity.........that......by the way..........is present and available all other the state in the form of 'too many' clubs.

Race staement? Families that "cannot afford the freight" include plenty of white families. Financial stress is about many financial obligations and a limited budget. High level youth sports are a luxury item, not a necessity. Many Families of all races don't have a budget for it and play at a lower cost level or not at all.

That is an interesting point as a European, I never considered in USA soccer. Is this true to become a pro NFL, NHL or MLB player, you need to pay a "club" type system?

"Nov. 3 New York Times, Google quantitative analyst Seth Stephens-Davidowitz crunched some numbers to determine that, despite the long-held stereotype saying the opposite, being a poor, inner-city kid doesn’t make someone more likely to become an NBA player. It actually makes the already small chance even less so."

Chances of success here in sport and everything else are heavily weighted in favor of the well resourced. Talent is needed but not close to being enough. Unless there is a financial gain to discovering and developing a sports talent, this situation will remain.
