How are local volunteer clubs affected when a 'super club' sets up shop nearby? Are clubs able to coexist and work for the benefit of the community, or is there just a player and money grab to survive?

Depends on the situation. One of the most hated "super" clubs on here bought there way into our town a while ago. It eliminated the "local volunteer club" from existence. Before the next season even started, it regrew under a different branding and still exists 5-6 years later.

Both serve their purpose. The "local volunteer club" has a place for kids who can't, or don't want to, dedicated the extra time the "super" club asks of them. While the "super" club has pushed out better players, the "local volunteer club" has done OK and the local HS will have a few of them on it. The rest are "super" club players, with a few of those not even on HS as their other commitments preclude that.
