All a parent reads is blah blah blah ELITE! and there you have it, My Kid is an Elite player on the Elite team at our club... hilarious.
This is accurate at alot of smaller clubs, and don't forget now you get to tell people your Elite player is "playing up" when in fact there aren't any younger teams in your club.

Diego Fagundez was elite at u12...there's your baseline.
Excellent example! That's the way that I view an elite player. It seems that the NEP's and NPL's of the world would have you believe that their top teams are comprised of nothing but elite players. I'm sure they're all good, but very few if any are elite.

Maple is mostly a town league--what masc was. In order to justify the $2400 fee they should be playing in a league of other club teams. At u13 and above NEP is still below DAP, ECNL and NPL but not every team at any club is going to play at that hug a level. NEP remains a respectable league for the vast majority of players and families.

Yet we all know parents that are happier with their kid playing up on a lower team Thant age appropriate on a better team overall. That's how smaller clubs have been able to see the birth year change while keeping their tams intact. My kid is elite-12 years old-playing NEP u14!! Woo-hoo. Doesn't appeal to me, but does appeal to others. Consumer driven free market as far as I can tell.

This always killed me...had a parent of a new player who just joined a very strong U13 team (State Cup winner) from an average U14 team tell me of their decision-making process "we really were on the fence because our daughter has ALWAYS played up and were concerned she would be taking a step back"

aka - "How am I going to explain to the other Moms at Panera next Wednesday AM why my daughter isn't playing with the older kids anymore?!"

There are two camps I suppose. I know parents who openly admit their goal is for their child to play up even if it's on a lower level team bc they think playing against bigger/older kids is the best way to get better. I believe that playing against more skilled players is the best way to get better. Both sides think they are right. Ultimately parents pay the bill and hopefully kid is happy whichever path they pick. Some kids want to play up, others want a team of similarly skilled players, others with school friends even if the tam isn't that strong. One size doesn't fit all.

Some of the teams I have seen in NEP are worse than MAPLE teams especially in the Championship league and below. This makes no sense. So the teams playing in League 1 for example will stay in NEP while some very good MAPLE teams will have to play in NEC?

I would imagine that will sort itself out after the Fall season. It makes no sense for ex-MAPLE teams to be kept in NEC while handily beating other NEC teams. I have no info but I would expect that there will have to be some mechanism for teams to "play into" NEP without a strict promotion/relegation system.

There are already teams from the accepted clubs that will be playing in NEP. Their d1 teams will be in NEP not NEC.

NEP/NEC has posted that no more new clubs will be accepted for now. Leaves some clubs stuck in Maple for at least another season.
