Thought Maple was "restructuring" and going to partner with MA Youth Soccer in some way, but have not seen any details. Does anyone have any details on what is actually happening? NEC seems like an attempt to grab Maple clubs while still maintaining the "elite" status of current NEP.

I heard MAPLE is creating a new division called NESL, a higher tier league where teams have to "earn" their way in via annual records/competitiveness, and all participating clubs must meet specific qualifications (licensed DOC, robust training structure, etc.) - tighter than what's being required for a newly entering program. Not sure how its structured in with MYSA, but they seem to be a supporter particularly with US Club in the picture.
It sure would benefit the entire country's development of players if there was a single pathway from rec to the top tier players and not so much financial money in the way. If there's anything this country will continue to fail at, its getting money out of politics (government or soccer for that matter - a shame really).

Quite a risky time to come out with a new upper tier where teams have to earn their way in based on past achievements. With the age group reshuffling, many of the upcoming teams will look very different than their old teams. The sorting out may take a few months and some of the old teams may even disband. Regarding the single pathway from rec to top tier, this doesn't do anything to help that. Its just a copy cat format of NEP, with the NPL being the top tier for that league. Maple is obviously a few years behind, just like they were with the player club pass.

I don't get why a lower division of NEP or a higher division of MAPLE make any sense at this point in time- there's already too many leagues and pathways. Maybe this NEC is just the last nail in MAPLE's coffin. Good luck to MAPLE- they're toast. Not saying there aren't any good teams left in MAPLE- there might be a couple per age group- but not enough to form another league/division.
The only one of these new things that makes sense to me is the proposed "town select", with the selling point being less cost and travel for the kid who wants more than town but doesn't need the full club thing. But would love to hear the thesis behind the NEC and NESL things.
With all the club teams being blown up by the birth year mandate, there is opportunity in upheaval. But it also might be tough to get anyone to switch to a new league when they're already switching to a new team.
So I wonder what LL makes of all this. Will we soon see SSS play in the NEC?
I don't think so. Why would she? She pretty much runs maple with some of the other big clubs gone maple will do anything to keep the club. She won't get her way if she goes to another league. Her tops teams do well in maple so it keeps the parents happy that their kid is winning. Why would you go some where else and have the chance at losing every week?
