My favorite is when someone comes on with something positive, which happens quite a bit, then whichever one of the 2 or 3 of you comes back blasting that person for being positive and then adds 'Thanks BK'. Priceless!
Thanks BK. Seriously, you had to see it coming.

Why in the world would you care what Clearwater is or isn't doing? You all act like there are a limited number of good players and you have to grab them like candy falling from a pinata. Why don't you develop some players instead of squabbling over the ones who fell into your laps. Lazy.

We didn't veto your *** because you are small. We vetoed you because you suck!

Thank You! Exactly, and well put. Nothing will change, if we don't change.

The funny thing is that no one will go to Clearwater even if they don't want this teams to play CDL. If anyone leaves it'll be for a good club, like HCU or others, but Clearwater? Please, not only do they seriously suck, they are losing many players and teams each year, they charge you fees and make you work volunteer hours like if they were the only club in town.

Clearwater is going down, they live in the past, right now they have less teams than Palm Harbor, Eastlake or many other clubs in the area, no development on the younger ages means that while they might have some good older teams now, in a few years as those players leave to play college (or not) they won't have any good teams left.

First off, there need to be more fields and they need to be in better shape. Merging and enlarging these clubs is pointless if there is nowhere to play or practice. That means that the new merged board would need to show a plan to acquire and improve fields. That takes cash and community cooperation at the city or county level. Having 2 DOCs and paying for some stupid alliance to the work of a DOC is a waste of what 50K-60K a year that could go a long way towards getting teams of EVERY level a reasonably nice place to practice with light and facilities.

Secondly, there needs to be a clear development plan for soccer and for business/adminiatration. One is the responsibility of the DOC and one is the responsibility of the BOD and their committees. Clubs in this area have a bad habit of encouraging DOCs to augment income through club business. It becomes a conflict of interest. The DOC needs to place club soccer development first, personal gain second. If a DOC is here to get rich, they are unrealistic and will be a poor fit. A DOC is club employee, not a board memeber. They are hired to develop SOCCER. That means work with coaches, teams, players, and the soccer program. That being said, the DOC is the "team captain" and needs to exhibit qualities that inspire trust and confidence in his ability and be a leader among the coaches. The members value of his judgement and hard work is a driving factor in the success of the program and the growth of the club. Of the two candidates for the job, one clearly exhibits preferable skills and qualities. To retain the lesser talent would be wasteful and would deprive the captain of the opportunity to select his staff, which is his right.

Thirdly, The unified board needs to be good at MANAGING and DELEGATING. This means create clearly outlined, assigned responsibilities for responsible volunteers and monitor progress while charting the future. Be good stewards of resources that belong to your membership. Have the good grace to not favor or CREATE THE APPEARANCE of FAVORING a board member's child's team. The appearance of openness and fairnness is important because it binds members to the club and allows them to invest in the future. The board also needs to invest time in exploring in-kind volunter potential from their families. If they own a print shop, a catering company, a sign business, etc., is their highest and best use lining fields or selling popcorn? No. The board needs to do their homework and maximize their human resources. They also need to INVITE and ENCOURAGE to membership to attend meetings and keep abreast of happenings by putting out timely and clear communications with substance (No more bs, say-nothing press releases. Communicate!).

These soccer clubs are meant to be cooperative efforts by adults with the same goals in mind. What we have seen in the past few months is a bizarre divergance of personal interests that will, in the end, destroy two clubs with long histories. While the boards are surging ahead, members of long standing from both clubs seem confused, concerned, unhappy and UNWILLING. It would be wonderful to see a unified, clearly worded statement by both boards before the merger vote that states the goals of the new organization a a clear pathway on how to achieve these goals (with specific details). The board members should include a pledge to serve the needs and desire of both former entities with fairness, consideration, and cooperation. It would be great if they signed it. It would serve to reassure the two existing club bodies, inspire confidence in the plan, and map the future. It would also help measure progress down the road. If there has not been enough study to create a clear plan, then maybe the vote is premature and the opportunity should not be wasted until there has been enough study and communication. No one should find fault in a BOD that is thoughful, careful, and wise, even if it means slower progression.

A merger should be like a marriage. There should not be factions, winners, or losers. The entire body of both merging organizations should embrace the new identity with a renewed sense of purpose and a bright outlook for the future. Without their support, a merger is a merger in name only and will ultimately detroy both clubs. The boards and the soccer staff should not be afraid to talk about change and to EXECUTE CHANGES. Change is the point of the merger. What they need to do is communicate the path for achieveing these changes so the merger will inspire hope and excitement instead od fear and dread.

              Good Luck.
If the merge goes through there will not be a unified board, most of EL BOD will leave and it will be run by PH. The EL board is split down the middle and it is stupid to be pushing forward with a merge when you own BOD is not all on board.

There's nothing wrong with keeping things the same and being "Feeder" clubs.

                Signed,
                Clearwater & HCU

And yet both were on their way to becoming dynasties before they merged.

We are a PH family and heard from one of our managers that there would be electronic voting for the merger vote. WHat happened to that?

I think you can guess. Plan to be there on the 22nd if you want to vote (and get it counted).

You would be a fool to think that one or both of the clubs voting process will be rigged. I am sorry to say that but there is too much money involved and the powers that be want it bad.

PH is voting by e-mail as well, are you serious? At least you have to be in person at EL.

                              Merger Voting Information and Instructions
Email Deadline is Tuesday April 20th before Midnight

Dear Palm Harbor Soccer Club Members,

Over the past several months, members from our club have been working with members of the East Lake Soccer Association to explore the benefits of merging our clubs, while working through potential concerns. We have been very impressed with the level of support throughout both clubs and truly appreciate the amount of effort our members have applied to vetting this idea in a positive manner.

While many post merger actions will be required, both boards and the established committees have worked through the common and unique areas of each individual organization to ensure our ability to become one club can be realized. For example the resulting organization will: continue to operate local Recreation Programs at Palm Harbor and East Lake field locations; the Competitive Programs will operate very similar as they do today allowing player and family stability during the transition; the Boards, Facilities and Staff will be combined into one cohesive organization allowing the player benefits to be realized while holding down cost of delivery.

In our last communication we announced a merger voting date and outlined a couple of items that would be provided in our next communication. Those items, Merger Voting Procedure and Proposed Fee Structure, are being provided at this time via the attached link to our web site. In addition, the Palm Harbor Nighthawks Board of Directors voted unanimously, at the April 2010 board meeting, to recommend that members vote in favor of the merger. Therefore, we ask that you review the materials and plan to participate in the vote later this week.

                              Sincerely,

                              xxxxx xxxx
President, Palm Harbor Nighthawks Soccer Club

Please check the Palm Harbor Nighthawks web site for additional information.

"Vetting this idea in a positive manner"? Yes, I can imagine. I think it's cute when they try to sound like grownups.
