Do you think any current A team players will now accept being C team players at a new combined club? They should but it won’t happen. Parents will not understand that little Emma is just not good enough, and players will hop clubs per usual to be a starter on a different C level sfuysa team. Expect new clubs to pop up filled with hoppers who didn’t make the A team.
I can't stand Prime, and AH is a total joke! But AH aside, this is a good move for Sunrise, CCO and of course Prime. The GDA isn't going to last it in its current form. It no doubt can't make it at places like Weston and SFFA, but it is also showing major cracks in more established clubs around the nation, and those clubs have good (strong player pools) numbers. The ECNL model is a better fit for most girls. Sure, it would be great to have all the national level players playing in the same league, but the majority of the players playing with those national level players don't share the same goals. The GDA isn’t a league that was built for the majority of female players. The ECNL works for all female players in S. FL that are good enough to play at the level.

Affiliates don’t work, mergers that share a joint BOD do work; so this was a smart move by Sunrise. Mergers that offer larger player pools don’t have issues surrounding 2nd and even 3rd level teams. So, if a club with good numbers has an ECNL program, the second teams (NPL or USYS) generally do well. Clubs without rec programs don’t survive on the girl’s side. Clubs that start off with strong player pools in the very early years will maintain and retain players/teams if the club continues to do right by the players no matter the level they play.

AH is a fraud. He only cares about the money and DOES NOT care about your child. The sooner Sunrise and CCO can move him on the better. AH is poor for the health of any club. But this was a very good move by Sunrise and CCO.

GDA isn't going away but I agree that they screwed the pooch by not doing a gradual expansion. I guess they figured that ECNL teams would convert over (and to be honest . . . for a lot of clubs that's exactly what happened). Too many weak clubs were included and I assume that is because they wanted to shorten travel distances. Still, we see what problems that brought about.

ECNL is just a bigger money maker for clubs. They can charge more for a shorter season. USSF should have made certain clubs with Boys DA start Girls programs. If they balked then USSF should have said their DA affiliation might be in jeopardy of another club in the area COULD host both boys and girls DA.

But as much as people are claiming that ECNL has won this war . . . the two Leagues are not far apart and GDA still has the higher percentage of national level Elite players. Of course your chances of making the National teams are better if you are in a GDA program so that might be misleading.

          Partnerships/mergers

Sunrise, Prime, Cooper City, Coral Springs, Cape Coral, just trying to suffocate the DA pool locally. The question will be is the partnership going to add value to the smaller clubs or are they going to end up like the Davie and Weston "partnership"? Davie got decimated.

Look, the partnering means fields mostly. Those players from partnered clubs are not tied to any club or platform as they move up the ladder age wise. The pool is not being “suffocated.”

If the player can play or has high potential, they will he scouted by the DA and recruited to the platform..as they should be as mandated by USSF. IF the DA has good coaching and remains a viable platform (time will tell), then it doesn’t matter who their original club is or was or if they are partners with anyone. Players can change clubs and can move to the DA if they don’t want to play HS.

IMO...everything comes down to HS soccer. If you have a kid that wants to play for their school...do ECNL. I’d you have a kid that doesn’t want to play HS soccer (maybe a bad program, coach, or just doesn’t have interest) then ECNL is a terrible choice because the program all but shuts down for 4-5 months.

The vast majority of elite girls that play high school is because they are on “scholarship/financial aid/recruited “ by powerhouse private school programs; otherwise, high school soccer wouldn’t be a factor and they would choose the high level training/development of GDA instead of ECNL.

Good point. These private schools are supposed to prepare kids for college (scores, etc). Since soccer is an equivalency sport you need to have good grades and scores to qualify for the additional financial aid needed to afford college. And you are probably better off getting academic financial aid since almost half of the girls will not be on the team after 2 years. Maybe you can keep that aid.

If you are an elite, full ride, type of player then GDA is probably the way to go since it will increase your exposure to the top college programs.
