Before deciding on Miami as the franchise location, Beckham explored options in other cities, including Montreal, San Diego and Orlando

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostMLS has known Beckham's preference for many months, it is completely unrelated to Orlando being a awarded a franchise. The only thing you need to know is that the senior MLS guy that came down for the Orlando vote said afterwards that they will now enter the final stage of talks for Orlando to get MLS. Done deal.
Orlando may get a franchise some time
No doubt MLS is far more interested in the Beckham effect and if that's in Miami, so be it, that's where the effort will go

MLS will be playing in Orlando by 2015. MLS in Miami may/will be later than 2015 IF Beckham and a partner (who hasn't yet even been determined) develop a plan for a stadium suitable to MLS.

David Beckham still targeting Miami for MLS expansion team, but nothing has been finalized
Posted on Tuesday, 10.29.13
“We are not ready to announce anything yet, but Miami remains a strong option for us,” said a statement from Beckham’s management group. An Associated Press report out of London on Tuesday saying Beckham had chosen Miami for his MLS team sent local fans and media into a frenzy. But the celebrations were premature.
Beckham is still in the process of lining up investors and raising a couple hundred million dollars to fund a soccer-specific stadium.
“We are continuing our discussions with David Beckham regarding future ownership of an MLS expansion team, and we are monitoring the situation,” MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche said. “He has not made any formal presentation yet. He has not met with our board. Our policy regarding discussions with potential expansion team owners is that we keep those conversations private until the individuals we are speaking with decide they want to go public with their plans.”

Beckham as an oner is a no-brainer. Part of his contract deal that brought him to the LA Galaxy included a discounted franchise fee for an MLS expansion team, should he decide to pursue franchise ownership.
That discounted fee is reportedly $25 million. That compared to the projected fee to the Orlando ownership group of $85 million yields Beckham $60 million in "found money". He has been discussing Miami for a long time-
personally i think Miami is ultimately a better location than Orlando, though Orlando's group has done a great job of piecing together a business model that starts with a youth Development Academy and includes PDL and USL pro teams. Beckham would be smart to follow a similar route if possible.
