And, yes, clearly any parent that leaves a loaded gun on a table with toddlers in the house is not responsible, and it may be fair to say, "Criminal."

Yes, agreed that people are the ones that cause harm, but someone in a movie theater can have the potential to cause much more harm with a semi automatic than a knife. And, better gun control aka better gun safety, may eliminate the easy opportunity for accidents, convicts, psychotics, etc.
Your obfuscation and petty highlighting of typos aside, the obvious point is that career criminals like this will always find ways to have guns whether they are "legal" or not (our current drug epidemic is a good analogy). We would all be a lot safer if career criminals were handled properly (imprisoned rather than paroled) and guns were handed out with drivers licenses than with our current revolving door, restorative justice scheme and legislation making guns illegal to own. Heck, I'd even go for some gun control if career criminals were handled properly, but it will never happen in the US - dont want to get political here, but I think you can probably guess what I mean. Aside from this, I would be in favor of smart gun technology, but by extension, there should probably also be some smart vote technology on the table to help fix the underlying, fundamental problem of a broken criminal justice system that renders the US one of the world's most dangerous places in the world to live (see A. Pelton: http://www.amazon.com/Robert-Peltons.../dp/0060011602). Again, would never happen. Enjoy the crime folks... you vote for it.

Most conservatives are happy to pay taxes for criminal justice and defense (as well as roads and bridges). We don't like to pay taxes for wasteful entitlements, which breed more criminals by keeping large swaths of our population in a quasi-slave like dependence on central government for basic needs (like drugs and alcohol).

Isn't it funny that the first thing the Bolsheviks did during the October Revolution in early 20th century Russia was open the jail cells and let all the criminals out? And in Venezuela, the definition of a criminal is "conservative", or "opposition party" - no real criminals there - same with North Korea. Funny, our current administration is the softest on crime ever, letting career criminals out of jails by the thousands, even terrorists out of Gitmo...

Let's start by stop wasting money incarcerating marijuana offenders. Save the prisons for violent ones like this.

                You are STILL an idiot.

I'm, frankly, tired of people looking to government for the answer to things. The answer lies with us. We have the power and need to exert it. Enough of allowing government to control a criminal justice system that is more focused on keeping over-crowding to a minimum and, therefore, lets criminals roam our streets. Enough with the blanket concept of rehabilitation when it is patently obvious that some people can't or won't be rehabilitated.

Stop looking to government for your answers. They are the cause of most of the problems. They are a bunch of out-of-touch, unethical, narcissistic money-grabbers living off the largess of us; the people who go to work every day and make this country what it is. Doesn't it strike you as odd when a career politician runs on a platform that you need him/her there to fix all of our problems, when they have been there all along as the problems have grown exponentially? Having years of experience in government should mean you are unqualified to serve........
You would have to reach into your own pocket then to support the high cost of keeping lots more people in prison for much longer. Reality is, it costs money. Prisons are contractors to the government. How much money can you raise for what you want done?

well, can't we just use some of the money we are sending to Ukraine to be laundered?
