Well its not that simple. The ecnl typically just doesn't grant every club ecnl status, actually wished they did team by team and not award it to whole club. Ecnl girls has been super weak in this state last year except for the u18 teams. Crossfire got smoked at 04 and 03, nearly an minus 80 goal difference in their seasons. What fun is that to get creamed and not be competitive. Then Seattle united and and pac nw were awarded ecnl stature when Crossfire already struggled. I know many rcl teams that went undefeated against the 04 ecnl teams this summer and most of the games weren't even close. Washington premier seems to do ok but what parents on the eastside are willing to drive to Puyallup 4 nights a week?
My daughters highschool team on the eastside who finished just behind Issauquah in 4a had two freshman make varsity, a select player and an rcl player. the 3 freshman ecnl players, one made jv and the other two made the c team from the crossfire ecnl. so that tells you right there the current talent level at ecnl.
I see pac nw and Washington premier doing the best at ecnl this year and crossfire and seattle united really struggling at least the 03 and younger age groups.
Now if crossfire does indeed have to give up ecnl this next year I imagine Pac nw and seattle united might improve, especially since We are hearing many(up to half) girls from Crossfire academy and reign academy teams are going to leave the DA so they can play high school soccer next year and actually attend their school dances and things. The Da on the girls side are idiots for not allowing the girls to play for their schools. The boys side doesn't care because most of the most think they will go pro and are willing to give up anything for that chance. While the girls want both worlds, soccer and social lives to an extent and not feel like they missed out completely on their high school life. The DA doesn't get the girls anywhere but college and a small number to the Olympic team and then what? Most girls use soccer as a way to get a good college education and less of a cost to ensure them a great career. There is no professional career with huge amounts of money dangling in front of them like the boys side. What has the DA done for the boys side anyways? The mens national team has sucked for years and in shambles all while the Womens side continues to excel. Maybe its time for USA soccer to actually look at the set up.
The ecnl teams around here are mostly a joke right now and not worth jumping into and a lot of the 04,03,02 age groups. We will see what happens at 05.
