Love the deflection to bashing women's sports. That is not the topic. When the best youth male athletes in this country start playing soccer, get back to us. Until then, this impression will remain unchanged.

An great linebacker will not have the necessary athletic skills to be a great soccer player, and vice versa. How do you know that the men playing at the highest level of soccer in this country right now aren't the ones with the best athletic traits to play soccer? If your answer is that they suck compared to the rest of the world, it's easily pointed out that we have a terrible development system and coaching pool, so of course these athletes are not going to compete well with those from other countries with better systems.
Not to beat a dead horse, but a 7ft tall basketball forward will not be a world class soccer player. A 300lb Linebacker will not be a world class soccer player. There are some Wide receivers and track and field sprinters who have the pace to be world-class forwards, but again, pace is not our issue: technical skill and cognitive understanding of the patterns of the game at a world class speed is.

All three issues are due to our development model and coaching staff and have nothing to do with the athletes.

Americans favor sports that allow the participants to be doughy. That's why soccer isn't popular. It's hard. There's no real break is soccer for Americans to catch their breath.
