Cyber Safety is not why they did it.

Whatever the motive, the result is correct. That information should not be visible for the general public.

Do you want your kids personal information out there for anyone interested to see? In spite of the current climate of let everyone see everything, it is not a good idea.

Problem is easily solved - ECNL has had their info private for two years now. Only ECNL members (players, families) have access along with approved college coaches. DA is way behind the 8 ball on that one.

I didn't care about the DOB until someone pointed out clubs are cheating.

You do realize that players who have a physical growth delay, for whom this rule is actually intended, can be born during any month of the year, right? A Jan. born player with a growth delay can be even a full year behind players of average growth born in Sept-Dec of the same year. Soccer attracts many of these kids, because it's one of the few sports where agility and quickness can compensate for lack of size, especially at the younger ages, so they end up succeeding and sticking with the sport.

And you're right, small size doesn't always mean the player can't compete. My kid is almost two years behind in growth, but is playing up a year right now and is still able to compete just fine. But with puberty quickly approaching for the rest of the players on his team and it being another 3 years off for him, he may soon find himself back with his age group and then possibly needing to play down an age group until he develops the muscle mass needed to physically compete back on age again.

It's good to have options for these types of players, instead of being tossed out of the DA system for a year or two when not being able to compete on age, having to try to find quality training elsewhere before joining back up after they've grown enough. Hopefully, the clubs abusing the rule don't ruin it for those who actually need it for proper development. Maybe some simple guidelines to better define which players it can be applied to is all that is needed.

What if they're 5'11", about 165 lbs, and born in January of 2002?

The intent was only for late birth year kids, not just any small player/lagging player. It is good to allow players a chance to develop more. Some will never succeed no matter what. Some also may never be big enough (skill can only get you so far if you keep getting pushed off the ball by someone with 50+ pounds on you). Where people have issue, and rightly so, is clubs violating the spirit of the rule for the sake of winning.

It's skeletal age vs chronological age. Doesn't matter what month or year you are born in... statistically it has been shown there can be up to 2 years difference in skeletal age for players born the in the same month.

You mean, Seacoast GK that's played every minute of every match this fall? Development? Sure...... Funny enough Seacoast doesn't even list him on their '03 roster.

                        Let's rat the cheaters out.

Revs getting ahead of the loss this coming weekend after realizing Seacoast beat Montreal.

Seacoast should be playing up their 2004 keepers instead of playing down a 2002.

Precisely. That's development. Playing down is just to win.
