Did she come from stars' headquarters? Where is the surprise? There is always some luggage attached with their players. Great soccer player, but it is not just that as you can read between the lines:

My daughter knows her well. Lovely girl, always modest, great player and as far as reading between the lines did you actually read Waldrum's comments?

Honestly folks these constant antiStars or Stars players threads are over the top and seem fueled by jealousy at this point even though Stars is not as strong as it was in its heyday between 2005 to 2012.

Get over yourselves. You would have read the same types of comments if one of the Mewis girls had transferred. Transferring is not a positive event and with someone as well known as her that makes it news worthy. It's one of the prices of fame. As one of the most talented and newsworthy players to come out of this region (never mind just the Stars) discussing what went wrong is a natural part of this and when a club advertises their commitments like the Stars do it is natural that some of that will work it's way back to them.

Ok. She is transferring from ND because she is such a great player and teammate and also wasn't chosen for U-20 because the coaching staff doesn't like her great soccer ability and chemistry with the team. Poor stars. The whole world is against them because they are so great. Give me a break.

Actually Waldrum's comments help everyone see that there must be something else. I doubt that the USNT staff based their decision solely on her talent because it is kind unanimous that she can add some soccer quality to the team. Like a lot college coaches and real soccer coaches believe: just talent is not enough.

Just read the thread and it sounds unofficial at this point. Obviously there's a laundry list of reasons why she might leave. Her choice, her business.

M & D are a bit over the top. Wonder if the coach is pulling a "What about Bob" Please go so I can get rid of dealing with your dad.

Don't really wish to trash the player because she Is an exceptional player and have never heard even a whisper of any of the things insinuated here but when you are in the public eye you have to take the good with the bad. She's not a youth player any longer. Talk show programs will often spend days discussing a player's personal decisions all the time now. High profile college players aren't immune from it, think of how much discussion that was put into Johnny Manziel when he was in college. It all comes with the territory.

ND is a tough school. Not everyone can pass college Calculus - not everyone can thrive under their rigid academic parameters. Could be as simple as that. I've seen her play. She's real good. One of the best girls players I have seen in 20 years of involvement with the game. This is probably a highly personal decision with a number of factors and simply shows that compatability between school, coach and player at the D1 level can be complicated.

As for WNT? April Heinrichs is the Technical Director. Does anyone know why this totally incompetent coach is still involved. Hasn't she screwed up things enough? Wasn't the U20's recent performance embarassing enough for changes to be made? - Cujo

Such early recruitment doesn't help either - not too many HS freshmen have an idea what they want. A lot happens to a teenager during the HS years.

That's why kids shouldn't being "forced" to early commit to any school without doing their homework thoroughly about the school. Also none should go to any school just because a coach is at that school. Her involvement with ND had a lot to do with Waldrum and her participation in national team that he coached.

Agreed 100% - 14/15 is a tough age to make any kind of important decision. This is why laws prevent kids from entering into binding contracts until they have reached 18. Even worse is when a parent makes a decision for them that meets the parents agenda and not the kid's. The NCAA rarely however manages athletes in a manner as to what is best for the athlete. It is mostly what is best for the member colleges and the NCAA. - Cujo

You win the kewpie doll prize. The NCAA could give a crap about the athletes, all they care about is the money. They are not going to do anything about recruiting simply because that would entail clamping down on all of the schools, not just the few rouges. Not going to happen. Complaining about early recruitment is a lot like complaining about taxes, no one is in favor of it, but it is a reality that just is not going away. This situation is one reason why the clubs should be held more accountable for what they are doing for the players during the recruiting years. All of the clubs now are touting a certain level of expertise when it comes to selling roster spots to the newbies either through actual sales presentations (like NEFC) or by highlighting their player successes with commitments (like the Stars) but few of them actually do a good job trying to help their players walk through the process. Especially when it comes to early recruitment.
