They call it discovery players to disguise the fact for people who aren’t that savvy but it is the same dam thing.

I find it interesting when everything is boiled down to it, people are arguing club soccer about whether they have more DIV 2 or DIV 3 commits. Is that what this is all about? I think that’s so messed up.

You don't think 10k a year for travel soccer is messed up. 5 years into travel soccer and 50k later your kid gets a 10k scholarship to a d3 or d2 college. According to the the club where your kids played, that a success story for social media.

Then call it that. Btw-DP players have to be out of the area and a top 3 player. No way your getting to 40+ college kids with the number of DP players you can add.

          Go away.

If my kid goes to the top of the application pile at Harvard because they want her for their soccer team. Then so be it. I'll take DIII all day long for that and you would too.

Don't need to spend 50k on youth soccer to get a d3 scholarship. Base on grades and sat scores alone my child would be accepted to any college. I am not staking my child future on a bunch of wash up coaches and their so called connections. Soccer is waste of money. We participate because our child enjoys playing.

Should we only celebrate the student athlete who plays in the ACC or SEC and dismiss the players at USF, FGCU and UNF as unworthy of celebrating? What about the SEC player that never gets in but is an incredible team mate and got a good education through soccer? They are sh-- too in your mind?
You should celebrate all divisions. Playing in college a honor and an achievement . Don’t listen to these shmucks.

Our youngest is in their 2nd season at a D1 program and she is growing immensely from the experience. Several of the previous posts just have the flat out wrong perspective. Having your kid play college soccer (at any level - D1, D2, D3, etc.) is not for everyone.

The "sweet spot" is if you have a situation where:

                  1) Kid loves the game of soccer, is talented, is a very hard worker and wants to play for 4 more years after Club soccer.
                  2) Family has no illusions the kid is going to "go pro" in the U.S. or over seas.
                  3) Kid works hard in school and gets good grades/test scores, so they can select a strong college and their college major and complete the degree to have a chance at a strong career (beyond soccer).
                  4) Kid comes from a family that can pay for the costs that are left over after Athletic aid and merit grants to attend a college that is strong (enough) in soccer and academics.

If you are that family, with that kid, then you should go to a Club that can help facilitate the next step. The Club (ideally) would be connected to college coaches, provide support to families during the recruiting process and have coaches that know how to navigate the college recruiting process and evaluate offers from different schools.

Most clubs are not able to provide this support and they will try convince the family that it is on the family to handle all of this. Some clubs in Florida are very skilled at supporting this - if - the family is willing to invest a lot of time, energy and resources.

                  Best of luck!

^ and most families who have kids playing know it. They're about the fit (both academic and soccer) and aren't hung up on the D1 moniker. It's a limited subset of D1 elitists who can't stop degrading others. Kids that get to play soccer at any level for a few more years at a school of choice have won the lottery

Nah...winning the lottery is all luck and pure chance.

This is all hard work and dedication and talent.

Pretty much all of this is spot on in our experience. We have one playing in college and one in the recruitment process. Very different process in COVID era but the fundamentals above are all the same.

You will be able to tell very quickly if your family is at a club that can support this if your child is playing U14 or up and you ask for help with this from the Coach of your kids team. Their answer will tell you everything. They’ll either offer information, or direct you to someone else at the club, or offer a bunch of lame excuses and weird information that doesn’t add up.
