Winter Haven Youth Soccer and FL Tropics Merge

The new semi-pro indoor soccer team Florida Tropics that will be based in Lakeland will partner with nearby Winter Haven competitive teams. Tropics is an unaffiliated indoor club that has market themselves plenty lately. Now they will have WH wear their jerseys, and their head coach CR is about to be named DOC. Just hope this is not another disastrous wannabe big-boy move by CR like the VSI move in Brandon a couple of years back. Desperate move by WH as their programs keep failing and players looking for greener pastures. Not sure that merging with an indoor league will make the club any better. Smells like a money move by the new and untested Tropics.

Sounds like another power trip. WH BODs and CR...not a good mix

VSI was the brain child of BL not CR. CR and DV left WFF when BL took over...

Yes this is not to CR business. Look at AH's track record and you will feel sorry for both the Tropics and now Winter Haven:

Do the tropics still have Jackie Moon as their player coach. That guy was awesome.

Good for Winter Haven! Looks like Lakeland FC missed the boat on this one. Hey at least Lakeland still has their fancy exclusive Hummel equipment.

Never heard of Winter Haven. Must be a small club. How could partnering with pro players on any level be a desperate move? Unless Winter Haven is paying the pro team, which is not how these deals usually work, then this only stands to improve the quality of play from a small club. I clicked on this thread to read about the Tropics. The expansion of the pro game on any level is good for Florida soccer. More interest. More future coaches. More growth of the sport. I am glad to hear the Tropics found a youth partner. Frankly, your post does reek of jealousy? Why do you care?

It is not a desperate move. The other local clubs are desperate because their players will leave their clubs now that there are closer options than wff. More parents will take kids to Winter Haven from Lakeland cause it cost 1/3 of the cost to get the same quality of training.

Did Winter Haven and Lakeland plan on merging? Would have made sense and then have a partnership with Tropics!

Lakeland and Winter Haven would make sense. Lakeland has CDL and a huge rec program. Winter Haven has talented players and nice facilities. These two clubs could as combined become a serious contender in the Central Florida region.

The only way that Lakeland and Winter Haven could ever merge is if Lakeland conpletely took over both programs. Egos are too big in Lakeland for any real partnership. There is no way Lakeland would be willing to share anything. Lakeland might want to cherry pick players from Winter Haven, but there is no way Lakeland is interested in a real merger or partnership. Any one who thinks differently does not know the over blown egos that run LFC.

????? No it wasn't. CR and RB took over from GR in Brandon as joint DOC, Brought in VSI. Started a PDL team. CR quit Brandon to be a director of VSI. JH was the coach for the PDL team. PRO team came after the PDL. BL came after this. Now BL was behind Liverpool.
