Try telling the coaches that, they don't have the slightest idea.

it's not that size and speed are negatives. they are pluses. it is that kids are not being taught how to really play and are playing a style that favors solely size and speed.

If a kid cannot cleanly and correctly receive the ball, use first touch to put the ball into space under pressure and then make a good pass to retain possession, he is not a good soccer player no matter how big or how fast... this sounds simple enough but I can think of MANY MANY supposedly very good players whose idea of a pass is sloppily kicking the ball forward in the general vicinity of the striker (usually only to lose possession), who have no first touch and who are sloppy receiving the ball.

A kid does not need to dribble like Ronaldinho or Messi to be a sound player... those are special talents.

If a kid can do the above, then yes, size and speed are bonuses.

The problem is that kids do not learn the basics of receiving and moving the ball under pressure. They think a good midfielder ninja kicks the ball forward. And most parents also believe this is what a good midfielder does. This style of game lends itself to using fast players up top and large midfielders that ninja kick it forward. You have far too many kids that cannot receive a difficult ball, clean it up with first touch and make a simple pass. That is the basic building block of the game.

Go to another club if their philosophy is to kick the crap out of the ball lol.
