BTDT, you mean to say the above as opposed to the D1 parents who are uninvested in their kids and show no interest in their activities? In other words, how are the D3 parents you despise so much any different than D1 parents?

All you Loras fans out there will be glad to hear that Loras beat D1 Drake 2-1 in a preseason clash. You can watch some video of these average high school players too. Just imagine how bad the 30 extra kids on the Loras reserve team squad are.

MIT Tabbed as NEWMAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Favorite

BOSTON, Mass. -- A year after finishing as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) runner-up and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, MIT was voted into the top spot of the NEWMAC women's soccer preseason poll, as announced on Monday.

The Engineers received six of the 11 first-place votes from the conference coaches, while Springfield, which ranked second in the poll, earned four nods at the top spot. The Pride took the NEWMAC tournament crown last season after tying for third in the regular season. Wheaton, which shared the 2013 NEWMAC regular season crown with MIT, was third in the poll and also grabbed one first place vote. MIT and Springfield both participated in the NCAA Championships last fall while Wheaton brought home the ECAC New England crown.

Local rivals Babson College and Wellesley College took the fourth and fifth place spots in the poll. Both teams qualified for the NEWMAC tournament in 2013, with the Beavers advancing past the Blue in a 1-0 quarterfinal match-up.

A pair of 2013 NEWMAC quarterfinal teams were next in the poll, as WPI ranked sixth in the vote and Coast Guard Academy was seventh. Smith College was eighth in the poll, while Clark University (9th), Emerson College (10th), and Mount Holyoke College (11th) rounded out the preseason rankings.

Teams will be kicking-off starting Friday, August 29th and the league slate begins on Saturday, September 20th. The NEWMAC tournament starts November 4th and continues through November 9th.

MIT women had two 1-0 wins against respectable opponents, Brandeis and RPI. The RPI game was decided in second overtime. Some MIT frosh got serious playing time. Looks like they filled in the holes from the graduating seniors in the back line and added some firepower up top.

                      Men's D3 Roundup

On the local scene, Brandeis probably had the most impressive opening weekend, crushing Hobart 5-0 and then winning comfortably over Keene St.

Wheaton and Babson both got 2 wins over Illinois Wesleyan and St Josephs (ME), with the Wheaton scorelines more impressive.

WPI got by Worcester St and then laid the wood to Becker 9-0.

Gordon crushed Salem St 5-1. Gordon is a popular darkhorse pick to have a decent tourney run, but they are going to be difficult to gauge due to a very weak schedule.

Western New England beat Westfield St and RI College.

Branching out a little more regionally, RPI snared 2 wins over UMass-Boston (2-1) and Roger Williams (1-0).

Skidmore was very competitive against Montclair St but lost 3-2 and then beat Endicott 2-1.

SLU had 2 comfortable wins, Utica won twice, Brockport beat St Marys (MD) and tied Salisbury, NYU got 2 wins over weak NYC foes, and Oneonta whipped Ithaca 4-0.

Highly rated Rochester was snakebit in their opener, dominating play based on stats but losing to Morrisville State, before getting a win in their second contest.

There were some other interesting results more nationally.

Franklin & Marshall had an ideal opening weekend with a pair of high profile 1-0 wins over Rutgers-Camden and York.

Stevens shockingly lost to Farmingdale St.

Whitworth surprised Wheaton (Ill) on the Thunder's home turf.

Ohio Wesleyan lost to Calvin in OT and rebounded to get by Hope. North Central (Ill) reversed those results, with a loss against Hope and a win over Calvin.

Carnegie Mellon had a poor start at home, losing to Kenyon 3-0, followed by another home loss 1-0 to Otterbein.

Chicago started strong with 2 wins over Dominican and Benedictine.

Carleton got by host Grinnell 1-0 in a brain bowl matchup.

Wartburg won a big regional contest over Gustavus Adolphus 2-1.

Emory and Centre fought to a draw and then Emory beat Rutgers-Newark.

*****burg won twice and Roanoke won and tied. Christopher Newport got 2 wins. And Virginia Wesleyan tied York and lost 2-0 to Rutgers-Camden.

St Scholastica lost to Trinity (TX) and then beat Southwestern.

Trinity (TX) also beat Wash U 1-0.

Powerhouse Loras easily handled UW-Whitewater 3-0, followed by another 3-0 win over Willamette. Fellow Iowa college, Luther, also snagged 2 wins.

Messiah was stretched against TCNJ, winning 2-1, and then eased past Rowan 3-0. TCNJ rebounded with an impressive 4-1 victory over Elizabethtown.

DePauw beat John Carroll and was up 2-0 on Ohio Northern before falling to the Polar Bears 3-2 in OT.

Allegheny split with Nazareth (L) and RIT(W).

Dickinson beat Catholic only to lose to Fredonia St.

Scranton and Swarthmore both picked up 2 wins.

Randolph played Hopkins to a draw.

Highlight matches for Friday are Calvin vs Wheaton (Ill) which is a featured NSCAA TV game and St Lawrence playing Rochester.

A couple of NESCAC squads open up play today with a full slate of games on Saturday.

Thanks Coach Martin. Man this guy is full of himself. Already peed off enough of the NEFC staff. Rubs people the wrong way, too cocky. Won't admit that he landed at the right job at the right time at the right place. Actually believes he knows the game, has talked himself into it.

Sounds like there is a bit of a story here. Would like to hear more of it.

                          What's the deal with NEFC?

Anyone have an idea what the pay is for a D3 women's soccer coach who has no other university responsibilities?
