Depending on the player, an Ivy will want a minimum SAT and GPA before they will give a verbal. There are some cases with superstars where this hasn't been required. Noone has a letter of any sort at 2015. It is all verbal. So in any case, there still could be a problem with admissions. If the coach is smart, they will do a preadmit with admissions before a verbal to protect the team and the player.

Ivies are a different animal. Places like Harvard and Yale each have roughly 4-5 automatic admits per year so if an athlete can generate the required Academic Index score a coach can sort of wink "promise" them admission. That coach can give a player a verbal commitment once the athlete has taken their SAT and their AI can be calculated but it is probably the least binding of the D1 commitments. The big problem with dealing with the Ivies is the admission picture doesn't "freeze" like it does with other schools so the grades have to stay strong until the application is filed in the senior year which is why I call it a wink commitment. If the athlete's AI drops below what the school and coach wants/needs then they will withdraw their support for their application. The Ivy coaches will all tell a prospect that they cannot "guarantee" admission but almost in the same breath also say that they have never "lost" a player they want that has lived up to their end of the bargain. Living up to their end of the bargain is delivering the grades. Like all early commitments there is nothing in writing and all of this is done on a hand shake agreement. Unlike other D1 commitments the athlete does have to wait until the formal admissions process is complete in the senior year for this to be final so it really isn't like the preadmit read that other schools will do.

If you look at the college committments it is impressive to see the number of Stars FC girls named. They are all ECNL players. This would lead one to believe if you want a top college in your sights its ECNL or nothing. Very few NEFC names posted and zero NPL.
          Coincidence or the norm?

Give it a rest will you. This is precisely why the other parents don't want their kids names on commitment lists. People like you need them to justify all that time and money you spent on club soccer by making these sad little comparisons. The sad truth is you just don't know what you don't know. Your assumption above is actually incorrect.

The absolute reality is the numbers you speak of do actually hold true on the girls side, the major difference is the recruiting time frame pushes the conversation down into the crazy middle school years where things gets hyped out of all proportion so the clubs can sell roster spots.

The two years difference in recruiting windows has a huge impact because once a kid hits high school the parents start to figure a few things out that your average middle school parent hasn't the first clue about. In middle school the girl's parents all still think Mia is going to love soccer to their last dying breath and UNC is within their grasp. On the boys side most only start thinking about the college stuff in their sophomore year and by then the parents have a pretty good idea exactly where their son is headed from an academic and soccer point of view.

The bashing is all too real on the girls side and it is not just the parents. If you know girls, then you know that putting one of them up on a pedestal in the spotlight is not usually the most conducive thing for group harmony. It usually sends things the other way into the nasty zone. I will tell you that when these clubs publish their lists it often sets up some pretty tough social situations for the girls themselves. I'm in the midst of it right now. My daughter literally has teammates as well as classmates giving her the cold shoulder because she committed to a college while they haven't. It is actually beyond petty but having gone through it before it is just a normal part of the process that you have to get through. It will actually die down as more girls commit and classmates begin to focus their own college choices but that takes time.

The thing is people like you obviously don't have the first clue that anything like this is going on because you are a guy and don't think like that. What you are doing is stoking a flame that you have no idea how hot it gets.
Giving her the cold shoulder? Really? Never heard of that with the true superstars? Did Brock and the Mewis girls get the cold shoulder from teammates?

Bizarre, truly bizarre. Certainly didn't happen with D's team. I think there is more to the story.
