You are allowed to do that if you request it. This allows them to play and out of league team. Last year it was Groton Dunstable and this year it is Concord Carlise

Medway has dropped one of its games vs Millis, too. Medway picked up BC as a non-league game.

Looks like the issue is similar to the one Bay State has with Dedham being so much smaller than others in the league. Millis has 198 boys, while all the other TVLs have at least 50% more. Millis has scheduled 2 non-league games vs Westport, a fellow d4, so now Millis can make the tourney just by managing 2 points from the Westport games.

Solution: millis switch to Westport's league, Dedham switch to TVL, and Newton South switch to BSC, which is more consistent both in size and geography for NS than Dual County (NS would struggle in boys soccer in BSC, but for athletics more broadly, it's a good fit to be in there with NN, Brookline, Needham, Wellesley).

BSC has this option too- it comes from the bad team not the good team (although in some cases the good team might want to beef up their schedule).

Dedham was all set to join the TVL along with Milford in 2009, but pulled out at the last minute....so Milford went Hockomock. TVL turned a bunch of other schools down at the time (Nipmuc and Blackstone/Millville were two of them), not sure if they have revisited expansion since. They would no doubt like 12 teams.

BSC's is different. Both teams need not agree. Any team can unilaterally opt out of up to two, I think. Some might disapprove of the burden this puts on the other team to find another opponent (although they don't have to), but it's a good attempt to do something to address the problem that Dedham, especially, faces.
