    ECNL Phoenix

Games for FC Boston, Boston Breakers Academy, and FC Stars U15-18 kick off tomorrow.

Post scores, speculate about the performances of your own and/or the other MA clubs, trade jabs (goes without saying), unburden yourself about the results of your club and team, and for those of you lucky enough to be there...

Share first hand game reports, observations about the level of competition from other regions, what others are saying about GDAP vs ECNL debate and any other topics, such as why we choose to live in cold, rainy New England rather than somewhere warm and sunny.

I'd answer the poll but no point getting the vitriol started so soon. Looking forward to some good weather, nice Scenery and time with my kid.

Fc Boston will show well against the other cellar dwellers in ECNL.

It will be tougher for your child playing. Get an umbrella, lot of water. It's not gonna be that bad

This raises an interesting point. ECNL supposedly attempts to schedule showcase attendees against other teams of similar reputation and/or accomplishment, so comparing overall records at the end of the tourney is not necessarily proof of which team is stronger. The Stars are the ones with the reputation, so if they don't do well, will they cite this to argue that their games were against top-level competition that was better than that faced by either Breakers or FC Boston. We'll see.

Good teams will find ways to win. Bad teams find ways to lose. That's the bottom line.

Pro metaphor to youth sports. Nice.

And a college showcase where the entire roster should get fairly equal playing time. Even nicer.

No wonder our NT programs are in such shambles with that mindset.

Question does it really matter who wins and looses? I think the main idea/goal for players now is to get seen by college coaches. Weather the team wins is secondary. The only people that really care about the wins and losses are people who either in love with a club or hate another club. Which is most of the people on this site.

Which is another way of saying it's club management that cares the most about W-L at showcases. Daily bragging rights, building team and club reputations both in the league and ahead of the playoffs, and being able to point to W-L records for marketing and recruiting purposes all play a role.

Plenty of clubs will succumb to the above ^^^^. It is a business after all. Some will put in more effort to showcase all players (mostly) equally. If a team has a deep bench this isn't an issue. If they're reliant only on the starters and then there's a steep drop off, then let the chips fall where they will
