Missing Recruit?
Why is the highly touted Thorns keeper/national team callup/UO recruit not on Oregon’s roster? Looks like they only have two keepers. She’s not listed as injured or redshirt or on the roster at all. What gives?

They are for the .1% kids like Pugh and Horan. Unfortunately for this keeper, pro clubs don’t see her as part of the .1%.

Selling out a minor child for media and money is a whole different sad story. This player is an adult and if she wants to try going pro, more power to her. This is about passion and a true dream, not about money. In state tuition isn’t much anyway and most commits only get a max of 50% so it’s not giving up much to try pro first in any case. A player can always go back to school.
"This is about passion and a true dream, not about money." So either you think a future where a young person makes 16-20k per year is a lifestyle to aspire to, or you think/know that she has a family who can subsidize her while she does this, or you think she is Pugh-like (or Moultrie-like) and can land six figure endorsements.
"In state tuition isn't much anyway..." - what a 1%-er statement.
"Most commits only get a max of 50% so it's not giving up much to try pro first..." - either she's the next Pugh (in which case she would have gotten a full scholarship) or she's not (in which case her earning potential in the pros is paltry). Which is it?
"A player can always go back to school." - sure. But not to play soccer. And if she had other aid lined up in the form of scholarships, those will likely be gone. But again, coming from the place of wealth privilege that you clearly do, those things don't matter.
What you really meant to say:
She comes from a wealthy family and has never had to work for a living. Her parents could easily afford college with or without athletic or other aid. They can also afford to subsidize her while she tries to go pro. In that case, why not go for it? Nothing to lose, except the experience of playing in college, which obviously wasn't important to her.
Fixed it for you.

So what if she’s not the next superstar to make the senior USWNT. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing! Just like some girls go to CC and some go to Harvard. Your way of thinking would have no one go to college unless they got into a school the level of Harvard and no one play soccer in college unless they got a full ride to play on a top 10 D1 team.
I know some players that were recruited to play in college that decided to go to a different college and not play soccer. I’ve known other girls who could’ve gone to a better academic school but chose a low academic level college where they could play D1 soccer. Every girl is different and of course family income and support level will play a role in every girl’s decision. I think it is great that this Academy player is following her dream even if my dd might have made a different decision if she’d had the same opportunity. I’m rooting for her to do well!

It’s not a great situation but simply the way it is.

What gives?
We are 4 days out from the start of league play. Thorns are the only GDA team without rosters posted - from tryouts that were 4 months ago. Did they not pay a bill and therefore aren't allowed to access their GDA web account to update rosters? Or are they not playing in the league after all?
