OW rosters are up and they seem smaller than usual.

The DA website shows the BS U19 team roster with 12 players. It also shows them playing no MLS teams for the entire year. They play Bolts and Seacoast three times each during the year?

Is this accurate? Is this what DA has become?

Have you been under a rock? Yes this is what the DA has become for teams like BS AND OW. Neither plays any MLS teams as both are in the new lower tier. OW and BS also have the pleasure of playing each other 3 times. OW also gets to play Seacoast and Bolts FOUR times!

Second class citizens now. Read the announcement on the USSDA home page , this will roll out to younger groups next year as well, guaranteed.

Where have you been all summer? BDA is essentially two tiers now. U19s are official - Tier 1 mostly MLS clubs, the B league all the rest. The younger ages are scheduled nearly as such so that clubs like BS don't play MLS clubs nearly as much as they used to. No doubt BS will add a few HS players after October and play up some others in order to have enough for games. But, yeah. Why give up HS for that?

It either rolls out to other ages or MLS clubs pull out altogether. Either way, the mid to lower level non MLS clubs will face increasing difficulties attracting players. Not worth giving up HS for a B league that looks more like ECNL, only with more restrictions.

If MLS pulls out of BDA, BDA will cease to exist. What would be the point of USSF continuing to run it?

IMHO, MLS and USL should start their own pro-sponsored academy league. The rest of the clubs, the vast majority of which are pay-to-play, should join the ECNL or another national league and focus on getting the kids to college.

Most USSF scouting should focus on the pro-academy league for YNT players - as that is where most all of the top talent will reside.

At some point (a few years) this is what will likely happen.

it effectively has rolled out to the other ages. U15 and U17 now has a "DA Cup" that groups MLS teams together and the fall season is effectively the group stage (e.g. NYCFC plays 8 of 11 games in Fall against "group" which consists of 6 MLS DA teams plus the other couple tier 1 non-MLS DA). Then if you're a DA team you advance to a Winter Cup (instead of the Winter Showcase, that's for the loser non-MLS DA teams) with a final Cup Winners Cup in the Spring. It's pretty shocking to see the naked power grab by MLS of the USSF.

USSF really didn't have a choice. It was basically this or the MLS clubs would leave. At least this buys them some time and if MLS clubs like it they may stay a few more years.
