Martino could care less about youth soccer in the US. He has zero involvement in their academy. Zero. Look at what he did for his first team when hired. Brought in young South American players who played for B level club teams in Europe (Martinez and Almiron) who can be forced in MLS. Smart move as a first team coach, but does nothing for development of youth soccer in US. Martino is decent coach who is tight with Messi, which is why he got the year at Barca and a stint running Argentina's national team. He make 7 mill because Arthur Blank is willing to pay a premium to attract attention to his new project.

MLS homegrown rules are a step in the right direction, and some MLS clubs are doing it right (developing kids and putting them in the first team as youngsters). But until we do what Germany has done, and make the MLS a league mostly about showcasing young players from the country in which it operates, the MLS will be the league of the washed up European starts. They stopnoff there and rack in a few extra million before throwing in the towel.

The reason that miami fc beat two MLS teams back to back is because miami fc plays at the same level as most MLS teams. This should give everyone an idea of how low the talent level is with American soccer at this moment in time.

Love when people write long paragraphs without knowing much. ATL Utd played 3 players who come from their DA program. Actually, two of them, Kunga and Carlton traveled from Indy after DA playoffs to play this game. Why talk when you don't know?

The little blonde kid was their best player. He was inspiring. The rest of their team was crap. Miami fc is going to bankrupt its league if the other teams attempt to keep up with their spending. A couple hounded grand more in parole and they will be the top team in America.

Lol. Carleton and the other homegrowns only play in
meaningless games, like the one against Miami FC. Go ask Tony Annan how many times Martino has taken time out to come watch any academy players train. Read the posts and try to figure out what people are talking about before jumping in with you off-base criticism. The point remains--almost all MLS clubs only give lip service to developing young American players. It is a league of washed up European stars. They do that to try to put unsophisticated American fan in seats. It's more spectacle than sporting event. When MLS teams have the 17, 18, 19 year old kids playing meaningful minutes in important league matches, like the Bundesliga does in Germany, we can talk.
