    Shame on you GPS

GPS took a page right out of Dan Colwell's book and recruited a kid from a different club (not affiliated with GPS or Bayern) in California (where they have no presence). They are paying all the expenses for a kid from Santa Rosa United to be a member of their GPS Bayern National team in the prestigious Milk Cup.

Shame Shame GPS- can't find one of your own to represent you?! Have to recruit from a non GPS/Bayern club across the country!?

GPS didn't do well in last years milk cup but at least it was a genuine GPS team.

Well they have to do well in the milk cup to please Bayern. After losing AS Roma so quickly they can't afford to lose Bayern. It may be unethical but it's legal.

Someone should do an investigation! A poor kid from El Salvador gets an all expense paid trip to Ireland to play soccer. This is criminal!

Who cares? The kid is talented and gets to play in Northern Ireland. GPS is doing the right thing.

There are paying GPS players and some on financial aid- why didn't they take one of them ? Are there others on this team from other clubs? Great for the kid but not for the players of GPS who missed out on the opportunity just so GPS can look good on the scoresheet for Bayern.

First, if it is within the rules of the tournament then it is OK to do. This would fall under the 'guest player' section. It is possible that the player and his family were soon moving to a GPS world near by...........it is possible.

Second, this is both the bad and good of youth soccer and sports. GPS is clearly desperate to win and willing to omit one of their own that 'they have developed' to use a player that they have had no involvement with at all, just so they can look good in a tournament and then advertise their success as due to the GPS training. I guess we will see how desperate the kid and family that is not going feels about this. I know of some families that were in similar situations left the club while others hung on reasoning that one tournament was not the breaking point.

I never liked watching guest players, who had never played with the team, come in and take away playtime from regular players who had been there all year, who then sat on the bench during the game. Unfortunately, the rules allow for it and the message is sent to the weaker less desirable player. The club reasons that this allows the club to 'tryout' the player, but most see the club as manipulating the system within the rules.

Good luck. I will be rooting against GPS on all age groups. Where is the website for this 'prestigious' event?

reluctantly have to agree with you...until they change the rules, this stuff will continue. If you don't like the rules, start a grass roots effort to change them, or otherwise get used to these shenanigans continuing

Since clubs have the most input on the rules a grassroots movement will likely go nowhere. The rules benefit the clubs - helps them win - therefore it will continue.

Non issue. Many tournaments allow for guest players.

"Prestigious" Milk Cup? Nobody in Belfast or anywhere else cares.

                        Which one is OP?

Coach wishing he landed this prize, or parent who feels son was deserving?

Definitely the later. Just like any other thread that discusses the injustices of any system/club/coach it's most likely a parent who feels their kid was somehow treated unfairly.

GPS is the sleaziest soccer organization in New England. I always feel the need to take a shower after playing one of their teams.
