    Argentina

Can anyone give credit to Argentina?? They were fantastic against the US just as they were in the quarterfinals. Their control of the game, passing, countering, and pressure were pristine. Messi was a central figure, but not the only one on the field.

Yes, I agree that the US essentially panicked for 90+ minutes, and reflected that they should be in the 'B' group of world soccer.

However, Argentina showed why they are a top ranked team in the world.

Not "a top ranked team in the world," but "THE top ranked team in the world."

It's got to be TD from CSU/Liverpool or whatever they are calling themselves...

Top ranked team but who are the current world champions?

Let's for once have an adult soccer conversation. Plenty of other threads for that talk.

Knew we wouldn't win of course but the team looked even worse than I thought. Combination of them being so good and US was so bad. 4-0 was a gift

Seems to be a trend. This group of US players does not connect well. Poor first touch - all over the field? Loosely marked Argentina attackers? It looked like a college basketball team playing against an NBA team.

You people are typical of the problem with soccer here in this country. The US team were outclassed and outplayed. The worse Argentina player on the pitch was better than any we have on the pitch. We know going in was not if we win but how much we'll lose by. 0-4 is respectable. Here is how I see the game. Argentina control, passing and movements were light years ahead and beautiful to watch. US couldn't get the ball out of their feet. Half of the pass were to Argentina. When we talk about speed of play the Argentina should showed us how slow we are.

For all you Klingsman critics, when he was hired he should have said the current USNT isn't good enough to compete at the world state and our focus should be on the U8 or U9 players. I wonder how you would react but that is the truth.

A shockingly lopsided game. Too much difference to blame anyone in particular.

Best free kick I've ever seen. Sublime.

The college vs NBA analogy is a good one...and there are plenty more "NBA" teams that would have made us look similarly bad.

Like playing a video game at novice speed. Zero resistance from USA because talent/skill differential so extreme. Sobering to say the least.

Agrentina, Columbia, Chile too good for this USA team, agreed - maybe next time we can get an easier Confederation to let us host their tournament, maybe try Oceania...

Probably a good thing we got to watch them, also that their Fed made some $

Klinnsman is poor from every perspective. Your point is true buy he hasn't done one thing to progress US soccer.

On it's face it sounds silly, but I think how he dresses on the sidelines is symbolic of what he thinks about hisjob. He just doesn't take it too seriously.

I noticed how when the ball came to an Argentinian player, regardless of the height or angle they were able to bring it down clean and make the next easy pass. Didn't matter whether it was chest, side, head or foot. The ball stuck to them.

The US was the opposite. The ball bounced 2 feet away half the time. Increased speed of play can't happen without skills, and they are sorely lacking. The US needs to adjust expectations throughout the youth system, and value skills properly or the next generation of fans will be writing the same complaints 20 years from now

The other element that deserves mention here is that, for the most part, the Argentina players are being trained and tested in BPL, La Liga or the ARG domestic leagues, as opposed to the US guys who are mostly MLS trained. To be sure, a few of the US men are playing in BPL or Bundesliga, but the majority are plying their trade in MLS, which is amateur hour compared with the European leagues. US can't hope to compete on the international level with most of their players coming out of the US clubs.

Until you have a true academy program in place US will never be successful. Adopt a style of play that is possession focus and ID players that can play in that system. The system must be flexible enough to accommodate technical adjustments like Argentina. What troubling is US don't have any creative players on the horizon. One that can organize the attack (Messi) and a player that can organize the defense (Mascherano). Both are attacking mid or midfielders who are used to directing traffics.

Look Argentina are soooo talented even the likes of Sergio Aguero and Javier Pastore are bench warmers. How can we compete with that.
