Wow, you guys are harsh!! Why couldn't a high school coach be a better teacher of the game and life than a club coach? Many HS coaches are actually school teachers and know how to deal with kids' issues, get them to believe in each other, bond and play for each other. Whereas many club coaches are most concerned with retaining roster spots so their salaries gets paid and getiing their star noticed and signed to scholarship so they look good, leaving the team observers of star who basks in glory. Team comes first! The worst is when the club coach is the high school coach and the team is not competitive because then you see politics of how the club players get minutes and more athletic non-club players get overlooked! What is the percentage of high school players who play college soccer, how about who get a scholarship? It is not cliche... but teaching kids how to be responsible adults and work together in real life contexts- not teaching soccer is most important!! Adults need to be models for athletes and make decisions based on merit and hard work! Enough with the crazy parents who think their kids is the best, let ODP coaches decide that if your kid is really that good, then we'll see who shines on a real team of stars.

Usually, the parents are the culprit...not the players or coach. When parents complain that the coach-bla, bla, bla...parents also let their kid know the opinion and that undermines the coach and team! Just keep your mouth shut and let them play, the coach has a plan...if not, they'll learn valuable life lessons anyway. Your kid is not a star or he/she would not even be playing HS ball!

There are excellent high school coaches and lousy ones. There are top class club coaches and awful ones. No way to stereotype high school vs club. It depends on the coach.
