Certainly, we are descendants of immigrants, but that is not the same thing as being an immigrant.

We need someone who understands how athletics work in the US. Someone who has grown up in our culture is more likely to have a better understanding that soccer is only one of the many youth participation sports. The talent level continues to increase and the best athletes aren't always going to come from very structured programs. We certainly have better athletes playing soccer now than 20 or 30 years ago. The progression through college soccer needs to become a bigger avenue to high level soccer. This can't be the only avenue but needs to play a bigger part. The NHL has become reliant on college hockey to supply pro prospects as compared to many years ago and the talent level has never been higher. I agree that Arena or Bradley are better options and have probably learned a lot since their last tenures leading the national team.

Only difference is your people never had a part in BUILDING the ECONOMY, DEMOCRACY, HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, WELFARE SYSTEMS, etc... or fought in any wars.

Because we are a nation of immigrants, we have to allow for massive immigration which, in turn, makes us a nation of immigrants. Hence its circularity.

Circular arguments are invalid in the logical sense by virtue of HOW they are structured and not WHAT do they mean. They lead to a faulty (and, therefore, useless) reasoning in which the thesis (the very thing which is to be proved) is used as a premise in its proof.

People continue to misstate the issue. It's not about immigration, it's about illegal immigration. Most people have no issue with new folks coming to our country. Just come legally, be a productive member of society and pay your taxes. If you were a criminal wherever you came from, you are not welcome here. Also, the rest of us aren't interested in paying your way if you don't want to follow the proper process to live in this country. It's a pretty simple premise.

That doesn't mean his point isn't valid. If you are importing players to play on your national teams rather than developing them at home then you are not really making progress in the sport are you?

Where is Trump's path to citizenship? It's not that hard. Secure the border. Heck we have a military and need to secure our border with more patrols and fencing. Anyone on the USMNT from this point forward must be a legal citizen, even if born on a military base in Germany or one parent is American. Diversity makes our national team stronger!
