It is great to support your kids that play club or REC soccer. Just realize that they are not talented enough to compete at a DA level (with a very few exceptions).

This would be true if indeed the DA alone was responsible to develop world class players and this assumption is not correct. We are killing talent by over coaching and wrong coaching methods at the younger age groups. The DA is moving toward younger and younger age players and early selection is the worst possible way to develop talent. This system also drops the majority of the talent pool when they select and ignore the rest. Another area we must look into is what happens after age 18. The player development process does not end here and where do these talented kids continue to develop? The apparently highest level is MLS, that cannot be considered competitive enough, and high enough quality to develop world class. Looks like we have a lot of work to do. We need more educated coaches, versus more trained coaches. Education is the key. Once we develop educated coaches and they take leadership there will be a lot more chance to find the effective way to develop players.
